“After only three episodes of “Reset” an opinion should be expressed that should be considered canonical: that the policies of the PO-PSL government were conducted from the point of view of other people’s interests” – reviews a series of TVP documents devoted to the rule of Donald Tusk in an interview with the portal wPolityce.pl Prof. Jan Zaryn.
Director of the Institute of Heritage of National Thought Roman Dmowski and Ignacy Jan Paderewski were asked to reflect on the episodes of “Reset” that have aired so far.
Tusk’s policy
After what we have already seen, I think it is necessary to formulate an opinion that should be treated as canonical: that the greatest tragedy of the foreign policy of Mr Donald Tusk’s administration is not only that it is a pro -Russian policy

That alone calls into question the morality of this government. Putin’s undemocratic regime that kills people does not deserve renewed dialogue with it. But this is the moral side.
A much more serious political accusation is that it was a policy pursued from the point of view of other people’s interests. The effort of the Polish PO-PSL government and its subordinate state institutions in 2007-2015, paid for by the Polish taxpayer, i.e. all of us, was not aimed at the implementation of Polish interests, but in the interest of the EU Commissioners who the implementers of this policy of European powers, chiefly Germany and secondarily France
says the historian.
Implementation of non-Polish interests
The Poles were not informed by this government that it was pursuing a policy that excluded us as a sovereign state in Central Europe. We have proof of this in the next episodes of “Reset”.
– he adds as an example, citing the fact that “for example, the Polish government has not informed the nation about the issue of inviting the partition of Ukraine.”
Not because it was irrelevant information, but only because it would hinder the implementation of the reset, i.e. directives that the government received from some external, non-Polish cabinets
– says Prof. Zaryn.
Another dramatic feature of Donald Tusk and his cabinet in the years 2007-2015, which distinguishes itself from the “Reset” series, are – according to the historian – his “layers of anti-Polishness much deeper than just – which would be enough – the mere attempt to reset with Russia, which did not signal that we are a state capable of pursuing a pro-Polish policy.
Responses to “Reset”
All evidence of this government’s actions – starting with its unwillingness to withdraw its economic decision on meat and other products – indicate that it has failed to achieve anything in contacts with Russia, Germany or the European Union that would serve Polish interests, also from the perspective of historical memory. Nothing that would be acceptable to Polish public opinion. This is the drama of these governments
– concludes Prof. Zaryn. He claims that “if +Reset+ discredits Tusk and the times of his rule in the eyes of Poland, it will be a very positive testimony that a significant part of the Polish nation is still interested in the sovereignty of the Polish state. “
However, I have some reservations about this. Today’s opposition clearly indicates that it is not a problem for them to reveal their then and now non-sovereign policies of the Polish state. So the opposition is no longer ashamed that being “European” is a higher reason for it, and that should satisfy the Poles than defending the “parochialism of the Polish raison d’état”.
