The draft review of the EU budget, which does not provide any support for refugees from Ukraine, shows a complete distortion of the European Commission’s priorities; this is a mockery of countries that have accepted refugees from Ukraine, the head of the parliamentary committee on foreign affairs, Radosław Fogiel (PiS), told PAP.
A Polish diplomatic source told PAP that while the draft review of the EU budget for 2021-2027 by the European Commission provides additional funds for migration, it does not provide support for refugees from Ukraine.
Not a word about refugees from Ukraine
Although the head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen announced an additional EUR 15 billion for migration policy as part of the budget review, there is absolutely nothing in this project to support refugees from Ukraine. The money goes to migration programs for the Mediterranean region. It’s very disappointing
a Polish diplomatic source told PAP.
According to Fogel, “this shows a complete disruption of the European Commission’s priorities.”
This is a mockery of the countries that have accepted refugees from Ukraine
– emphasized the PiS MP.
Additional funds for migration should be found as part of the budget review, but again, there is no support for countries that have taken in refugees from Ukraine, especially Poland, whose border has been crossed by millions of Ukrainian refugees; real war refugees
he noticed.
Fogiel admitted that while the migratory route problem clearly exists in southern Europe, the question arises as to how the EU intends to spend these extra funds there.
When we had a problem at the border with Belarus and the invasion of thousands of illegal migrants, the head of Frontex was fired due to border defense. It is therefore unknown whether the money earmarked for the Mediterranean countries will be spent on sealing the border or vice versa
he noticed.
He added that all this is related to the proposal of the so-called migration pact, ie the forced displacement of migrants.
So with the wrong policies of many European countries and Brussels itself, promoting the influx of illegal migration, and then there is the expectation that countries like Poland will pay for this wrong policy
emphasized the MP.
This is a completely frivolous approach and we will not agree to it. Of course we will raise this issue at the EU summit
Fogel said.
According to information from the PAP, Poland’s Permanent Representative to the EU, Andrzej Sadoś, informed his colleagues at a meeting in Brussels that the project does not include aid for refugees from Ukraine. The Polish diplomat reportedly said that the EC proposal did not take into account the needs of the countries bordering Ukraine due to the consequences of the war, eg in terms of war refugees, the situation of farmers, border infrastructure and border security.
No shifts in the budget
Poland indicates that the EC does not propose any transfers in the budget for this.
The project does not include any new measures to close off the eastern border. It will therefore come as no surprise to the European Commission that Poland is raising this issue at next week’s EU summit
source added.
According to PAP information, Sadoś has also asked the Commission to explain how the amount of EUR 50 billion for 4 years of macro-financial assistance to Ukraine corresponds to the real needs of this country, as the EU is providing EUR 18 billion this year alone, and this shows amount to be insufficient.
