The possible closure of the Turów mine will condemn Poland and Polish companies to poverty, Wojciech Ilnicki, the head of NSZZ “Solidarity” in KWB Turów, tells PAP. The decision of the provincial administrative court, which suspended the implementation of the environmental decree regarding the coal mining concession for the mine in Turów after 2026, has been called “outrageous”.
The Provincial Administrative Court in Warsaw suspended the implementation of the environmental decree regarding the coal mining concession for the mine in Turów after 2026. A complaint against the environmental decree was filed in autumn 2022 by min. Frank Bold Foundation, Greenpeace and EKO -UNIA Ecological Association.
During a visit to the Turów lignite mine, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said that “we will certainly not allow this mine to close; we will do everything we can to keep the depot functioning normally until the end of 2044. The head of government called the decision of the Provincial Administrative Court “lawlessness and a clear blow to Polish interests”.
The chairman of NSZZ “Solidarity” in KWB Turów, Wojciech Ilnicki, in an interview with PAP, called the decision of the Provincial Administrative Court in Warsaw “an outrageous decision of a pro-German judge favorable to Russians and Germans”.
He added that Poland and Polish entrepreneurs would lose the most from this decision.

Ilnicki said.
He added that “the decision to close the mine, in addition to condemning approximately 60,000 people to starvation, condemns Poland and Polish companies to poverty.
Ilnicki stressed that it is very important for the workers of the Turów mine to assure the Polish government that the mine will not be closed.
We know that a team has been formed to prepare an appeal to the Supreme Administrative Court

In a statement, PGE stressed that the Provincial Administrative Court in Warsaw “suspended the implementation of the decision on environmental conditions of GDOŚ in September 2022, which constitutes a gross violation of the law.”
The environmental decision has been appealed by green activists from Germany and the Czech Republic
