I could be offended, but this is not a revolution for Wałęsa, but for higher causes, former president Lech Wałęsa said in an interview with Fakt, referring to an incident during the June 4 march. The speech of the first leader of “Solidarity” was interrupted by cries of “Let’s go!”.
“The first big win”
Long before 4 June, Lech Wałęsa loudly announced his participation in the great march of the opposition. During the event he even gave a speech in which he talked about his fight against communism and also boasted honorary doctorates. At one point, the crowd was interrupted with shouts of “Let’s go” and the former president thanked them for their attention.
Was Wałęsa offended that the march participants – including young people – did not want to listen to him?
I must say I really liked it. This is the first major victory, although there was a change in generational thinking
– said the former president in an interview with Fact. As he explained, the young generation fights “differently” from the one he represents.
“I wanted to get them to understand”
According to the first leader of “Solidarity”, although his generation still remembers the fight against communism, young people prefer to look ahead.
I tried to tell them how I was victorious and my generation to draw attention to the dangers. Because I still see the dangers of that generation and I wanted them to understand how we triumphed
– he said.
And they don’t care, they win their way
– added.
Lech Wałęsa pointed out that the march participants were “impatient”. So he stopped speaking, knowing that he was not attractive to this generation.
I could be offended, start a fight under myself, but this is not a revolution for Wałęsa, but for higher causes
– he stressed, adding that young people should be helped and supported.
