I have not yet familiarized myself with President Andrzej Duda’s proposals regarding the commission to investigate Russian influence in detail, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said in Canada on Friday.
President Duda’s proposal
President Andrzej Duda announced on Friday that he was preparing a draft amendment to the law on the Commission for Investigating Russian Influence; It will go to the Sejm on Friday. The president appealed to parliament to approve the amendments as soon as possible.
Andrzej Duda announced that his project assumes the committee will be made up of experts, not parliamentarians; the appeal will not be addressed to the Administrative Court, but to the Court of Appeal in Warsaw (with the possibility of changing it to the Court of Appeal in the place of residence). The president also wants the remedial measures to be abolished, replaced only by the commission’s judgment that the person does not guarantee the proper conduct of activities in the public interest.

Morawiecki asked about Duda’s amendment
At the press conference, the Prime Minister was asked how he assessed the amendments to the Commission Act proposed by the President, he replied:
First of all, it is difficult to judge this proposal because I am not yet familiar with it in detail.
As he added, as he went to Canada and traveled around it, he had completely different conversations.
I need to read the president’s proposal in detail. Mr. President signed our law on the commission that verified Russian influence on the Polish energy sector and the entire Polish security system
noted Morawiecki.
He stressed that he was convinced that Poland’s NATO and EU allies are “reassured” after the talks he had with them. Morawiecki ruled that the commission’s case is “part of a big brawl that we are seeing in Poland that is part of the electoral process”.
I understand, there is nothing to be offended by, but there is also nothing to panic about or (…) change things that have been accepted in principle
added Morawiecki.
As he reported, in conversations with his allies, he indicated that no one could be excluded from the electoral process in connection with the passed law on the commission and that there was an appeal against the commission’s decision. He added that after these words there were practically no more questions from the interlocutors.
When asked about President Duda’s proposals, the Prime Minister reiterated that he should read them.
As I said, I have not read the communiqué of the President’s statement at all, I will read it later
said the head of government.
In Friday’s statement, President Duda assured his “strong support” for the law on investigating Russian influence. He noted that he was “absolutely convinced of the rightness” of the decision to sign it.
“Canada and Poland Strengthen Transatlantic Relations”
Poland and Canada today face enormous energy, economic and security challenges; I am glad that Canada and Poland are strengthening transatlantic relations, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said in Canada on Friday.
The head of the Polish government will visit Canada on Friday. The first point of the visit was the Darlington Nuclear Generating Station.
During his speech, the Prime Minister pointed out that the world has been subject to shocks in recent years, which are very hard for everyone. He pointed to broken production chains, the energy crisis, the war in Ukraine and climate change.
All this means that the world needs to look for new technological solutions that are stable, good for nature and, above all, good for people and entrepreneurs.
he noticed.
He indicated that he had visited the company where the world’s first SMR (Small Modular Reactor) will be built, a small modular reactor with a capacity of 300 MWh.
What is important – the first works will start in 2025 and – as I was just told – in 2028 the reactor should be ready; so the construction time is also short
he said.
The head of the Polish government stressed that Poland and Canada today face enormous energy and economic challenges, as well as security challenges.
He said he would meet Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Friday.
I am pleased that both Canada and Poland are strengthening transatlantic relations; that NATO stands firmly on two legs, on both sides of the Atlantic, precisely because countries such as Canada and Poland are striving very hard to do so
he assessed.
At the same time, by being here and talking with entrepreneurs, with world leaders in SMR technologies, we show that joint ventures on the latest technologies, breakthrough innovations in the energy sector are not only possible, but happening before our very eyes. Stable energy sources, safe and at the same time cheap and accessible, ensuring that both heat and electricity for residents come at an affordable price and from stable sources, while at the same time ensuring competitiveness for entrepreneurs
said the prime minister.
Morawiecki said he had heard from the company’s management that Poland is a very good partner. He pointed out that Canada will soon be developing the most modern technical nuclear solutions all over the world and that Poland will also be using them.
It is very important to me because it is a milestone on the way to ensuring a stable source of energy supply for Poland, which in turn is the basis for healthy, good, rapid long-term economic development for our country
– concluded the Prime Minister.
