The case of Judge Szymon Marciniak and his false report is an unprecedented scandal, the deputy head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Paweł Jabłoński, ruled on Friday. He also encouraged politicians of different political options to sign a letter to UEFA “emphasizing respect for referee Marciniak’s professionalism”. The Ministry of Sport has submitted its position on this to UEFA.
Full of false statements
They try to destroy a man because he has appeared in a place where a radical organization wants people not to appear. Unfortunately, these charges are full of false statements, but such lies have a lot of power
– said Jabłoński in a recording published on Twitter.
Letter to UEFA
He added that Sports Minister Kamil Bortniczuk is “sending a letter to UEFA explaining this matter”.
But I think we need to do something different to strengthen it. To do something that is very rare in Polish politics. But it’s not really a political thing. And here I think that despite the differences that exist between us, which will remain, we can do it together
Jablonski said.
He added a short letter, which will be sent to UEFA around 12-1pm on Friday.
I invite all politicians: from Law and Justice, from the PO, from PSL, from the party of Szymon Hołownia, from the Confederation, from the left – especially from the left – because unfortunately it was the left organization that caused this scandal – let we sign it all. This is a very neutral, apolitical text, emphasizing our respect for Judge Marciniak’s professionalism
– said the deputy head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In his opinion, Judge Marciniak “should be judged solely on his professionalism”.
We – as Polish politicians – from different sides of the political scene with different views – can work together on this one point. Because this is an action not only in the interests of Judge Marciniak, but also in the interests of Poland, because he also represents our country
Jablonski said.
I cordially invite and encourage everyone to sign this letter. We ship it mid day today
– added the Deputy Minister. In the next message, the politician said that signatures are collected up to 11.
An unworthy attempt at a career break
EU Minister Szymon Szynkowski vel Sęk also referred to the matter on Twitter.
I support Paweł Jabłoński’s initiative in this area. I believe that an attempt to break the career of the historically best Polish judge, with many successes, in the name of clickbait and ideological romping is unworthy
– He wrote.
Position of the Ministry of Sport
We have forwarded the official position of the Ministry of Sports and Tourism regarding referee Szymon Marciniak to UEFA
– said the ministry, referring to the words of Minister Bortniczuk.
An indictment from Judge Marciniak
UEFA previously announced that it would issue a statement on Friday about Szymon Marciniak, who will referee the final of the UEFA Champions League on June 10. According to the “Never Again” association, the Polish arbitrator took part in a conference organized by one of the leaders of the Confederation, Sławomir Mentzen, on Monday in Katowice.
We are shocked and appalled by Marciniak’s public association with Mentzen and his brand of toxic far-right politics. This is not in line with the core values of fair play, such as equality and respect. We call on the judge to admit his mistake. If he doesn’t, we think UEFA and FIFA should take action
– said one of the co-founders of the association, Rafał Pankowski.
On Thursday evening, Marciniak sent his statement to “Never Again”.
As an international football referee, I have always put fair play and respect for other people first and want to pass on these highest values to others. I always distance myself from expressions of racism and anti-Semitism and bigotry, which I show at the matches where I referee. I always say stop hating and I will convey that the most important thing is to be a good person
Marciniak wrote.
Marciniak, 42, refereed the final of the World Cup in Qatar between Argentina and France in December. He was responsible for seven games in the Champions League this season, including the return semi-final between Manchester City and Real Madrid (4-0).
Marciniak has also been appointed as the referee for the final, in which the teams of Manchester City and Inter Milan meet in Istanbul on June 10.
