The European Parliament has passed a resolution calling for the cancellation of Hungary’s presidency of the EU Council. “We voted against because it is a completely unjustified interference. This is related to the political-ideological war waged by the left-liberal majority in European institutions against conservative governments. Here the legal aspects are secondary or tertiary, because politics and ideology dominate here,” says Witold Waszczykowski, MEP of PiS in an interview with the wPolityce.pl portal.
The former head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs recalls the situation of yesterday’s debate in the European Parliament on the Polish Committee on Russian Influence.
During yesterday’s debate in the European Parliament on the Polish law on the derussification commission, Prime Minister Szydło recalled that, according to the treaties, the issues of the legal system of courts fall exclusively within the competence of the member states. Didier Reynders was shaking in his chair, didn’t agree. The education and philosophical policy is also not codified by European legislation. We are dealing with the usurpation by European institutions, mainly the EC and the EP, of powers to govern the Member States. The European institutions work a bit according to the cabaret principle: “we don’t have your coat, what are you going to do to us?”
— he points out, adding that the probability of the European Council Presidency actually being taken away from Hungary is estimated at 50%.
“European institutions can falsify the law”
Waszczykowski argues that EU institutions can bend the law without consequences.
European institutions can falandize the law, carpenters. Perhaps this will change in the second half of 2024, when there will be new elections to the EP. There may be a greater share of conservative parties in the EP, including in the governments of the Member States. They can refer other politicians to the EC and then the balance is restored. There will be less ideology and more political pragmatism. However, the coming year will be difficult
