I have no doubts about the Russian Influence Commission. Verification of the influence of Russian propaganda, spies or agents of influence is very important, and the decisions of the commission will be verified by independent courts, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said after meeting with the Prime Minister of the Netherlands.
On Wednesday, Prime Minister Morawiecki went to The Hague, where he met with the Prime Minister of the Netherlands, Marek Rutte. During the press conference, prime ministers were questioned about the rule of law in Poland and about the law signed by President Andrzej Duda on Monday establishing a commission to study Russian influence in Poland and its impact on relations.
Difficult subjects
Prime Minister Rutte stated that the talks also dealt with “difficult subjects”, such as the situation of Polish workers in the Netherlands.
The independence of the judiciary is of course a major concern, and we see here that Poland has taken some steps
– he said, pointing to the law on the Supreme Court sent to the Constitutional Court by President Andrzej Duda, which regulates matters related to the responsibility of judges.
Surely some of these concerns will be resolved here
he assessed.
Referring to the issue of the Committee on Russian Influence, Rutte stressed that “Poland, of course, has the right to prepare such a law”.
We are interested in this fear of individual politicians. We talk about that too
– he said.
Tip for Europe
Prime Minister Morawiecki stressed that verification of Russia’s influence must take place across Europe.
It would certainly be a very sensible move – it is not difficult for colleagues from Western Europe to imagine how strong the Russian propaganda is, how strong the fake news is. Checking, verifying Russian influence, Russian propaganda, spies or agents of influence is very important
he said.
As for the last act, there is no threat that a person who will be subject to this verification will be deprived of the opportunity to stand as a candidate in elections to the Sejm, for example. (…) We want to remove all doubt; In my opinion they are not justified. I would like to say that any decision of the committee will be subject to the final decision of an independent, independent court – not one, but two bodies, so there is no threat of this committee having a political trial and the next election
assured Morawiecki. He added that there was no doubt that the commission’s decisions would be reviewed by the courts.
The Sejm on April 14 this year approved the law establishing the State Commission for the Study of Russian Influences on the Internal Security of the Republic of Poland in the Years 2007-2022. They started setting it up in December last year. PiS Delegates. They pointed out that the commission will operate on principles similar to those of the verification commission for the re-privatization of Warsaw. May 11 this year The Senate passed a resolution to reject the bill on the establishment of this committee. Last Friday, the Sejm voted against the Senate resolution. The law was signed by President Andrzej Duda on Monday. That is in the Journal of Laws on Tuesday. The law took effect on Wednesday.
