The mandatory relocation system has already proven to be an absolutely ineffective and harmful tool, it’s time to focus on the fundamental challenges and effective tools, not pseudo-recipes. There will certainly be no Polish agreement to the mandatory mechanism of relocation of migrants, EU minister Szymon Szynkowski vel Sęk told PAP.
An EU source told PAP that at a meeting of member states’ ambassadors to the EU on Wednesday, the Swedish presidency backed the EC’s proposal to reform the asylum and migration system in the EU. It assumes, among other things, relocation to 120,000 migrants per year, or the equivalent of €22,000 per person if the country is unwilling to move.
Szynkowski from Sęk: We know how to manage
This information was commented in an interview with PAP by EU Minister Szymon Szynkowski vel Sęk.
Poland has successfully managed the largest post-World War II refugee crisis linked to Russian aggression in Ukraine. We take in about 2 million refugees, a total of more than 10 million who temporarily moved through our country
he pointed it out.
We know how to deal with the circumstances of the refugee crisis and we also know that the system of compulsory relocations has already proved to be an absolutely ineffective and harmful tool. It’s time to focus on the essential challenges and effective tools, not pseudo-prescriptions. There will certainly be no Polish agreement to the mandatory relocation mechanism
– said Minister Szynkowski vel Sęk.
Meetings of EU ambassadors are held behind closed doors in Brussels. Wednesday’s topic was reform of the asylum and migration system in the EU. The starting point is the proposal that the EC presented to the ambassadors last week. In the Council, the Swedish Presidency of the EU is steering the proposal.
The Swedish presidency on Wednesday upheld the EC’s proposal for the reform of the asylum and migration system in the EU. It assumes, among other things, relocation to 120,000 migrants per year or the equivalent of €22,000 per migrant if countries do not want to move
an EU source told PAP.
This means that negotiations on this will continue. According to unofficial information from PAP, the Swedes want to conclude the talks before June. Then the Spaniards take over the presidency from them.
The Germans, who have not taken a clear position, are hesitant about the proposal, PAP has learned. A qualified majority is required for the regulation to be adopted, but it is not known whether the countries that support the proposal will be able to get it.
According to unofficial information from PAP, Poland’s Permanent Representative to the EU, Andrzej Sadoś, reiterated at the meeting that Poland opposed the proposal. As PAP learned, the Polish diplomat said that the draft does not in fact provide alternative solidarity measures, and therefore leads to the obligation of member states to pay 22,000 euros for not relocating one migrant, which is a de facto fine. He also recalled that Poland took in the largest number of Ukrainian war refugees.
Czarnek: There will be no forced relocation
Education and Science Minister Przemysław Czarnek commented on the European Commission’s proposal on asylum and migration reform. There will be no forced displacement of migrants from North Africa to Poland, he told PAP.PL.
As long as Law and Justice prevails in Poland, which will probably continue for several more terms, there will be no forced displacement of migrants from North Africa to Poland.
– said Czarnek, referring to the European Commission’s proposal on the system of compulsory solidarity.
The EC intends to submit a new proposal for the reform of asylum and migration. It is intended to solve the problems of the southern European countries with regard to the influx of migrants. Poland and some EU countries oppose this proposal.
According to PAP information, the European Commission is proposing to relocate 30,000 people to other EU countries. migrants, with the possibility of growing to 120,000. people or the equivalent of 22 thousand. euros per person when the state does not want to accept irregular migrants under the mechanism – as reported on Twitter by Swedish Migration Minister Maria Stenergard – “mandatory solidarity”.
The minister pointed out that “mandatory relocation was not, is not and will not be in the proposal. Mandatory solidarity is another matter. Countries of first entry need support in their important work related to external border management. But being forced to move is not an option.”
The Swedish Presidency supported the EC’s proposal.
Let the Swedes continue their migration policy, it will be disastrous for them. Poland is a sovereign country and will not be subject to any dictate in this regard
noted the minister.
He added that the most important thing for Law and Justice is the safety of citizens.
I cannot imagine that we should forcibly relocate some migrants from North Africa in order not to get into a conflict (with the European Union – PAP), but to improve the sense of security and the actual security of the citizens of the Polish state. Reduce
he noticed.
