On the one hand, it attracts laughter, it refers to Warsaw as a grotesque place, and on the other hand, it is just a waste of public money – said the Mazovian Voivode Tobiasz Bocheński when asked about the controversial Ursynów lapidarium.
The so-called Ursynów lapidary was created in the park of Cichociemnych Parachutists of the Home Army, a heap of chaotically folded slabs of reinforced concrete. The College van Groen has placed a plaque next to the rubble stating that the mountain is becoming a lapidarium, i.e. a place for the storage and presentation of specimens of natural stone and stone fragments of architectural elements.
Residents of Ursynów in Warsaw and councilors called for the dismantling of the mess, fearing for the safety of children playing in this place. The mayor of Warsaw responded and issued a decree to completely remove the criticized installation. The debris disappeared from the park on Friday.
PAP asked Tobiasz Bocheński, the Voivode of Mazovia, for his opinion on the Ursynów Lapidarium.
The governor’s response
It was a ridiculous idea from the start. Lapidaries are made in different places of the world, for example in Italy, where you can see a lapidary composed of fragments of Roman columns, remains of ancient buildings
– he said.
He noted that the idea of creating a lapidarium from an apartment building in the People’s Republic of Poland is very original and interesting.
But I think Mr. President Trzaskowski should read Kapuściński’s collection of essays “Lapidarium” instead of spending public money in this way. Because on the one hand it evokes laughter, refers to Warsaw as a grotesque place, and on the other hand is just a waste of public money
he stressed.
The Home Army Cichociemni Parachutists Park is located in Kabaty in Warsaw and its revitalization is slowly coming to an end. The amount of the entire park is approx. PLN 9 million. The labor cost of building the lapidarium is about PLN 1,000. zloty. The contractor of the land art sculpture was the company AG-Complex, which is engaged in cleaning work, for example.
Comments
The whole situation aroused the interest of the public, whose representatives commented on the bizarre installation of the capital’s town hall. The commentary was posted by Robert Mazurek and Krzysztof Stanowski on the Sports Channel.
