Mariusz Błaszczak, Deputy Prime Minister and head of the Ministry of National Defense, announced the signing of a contract for the supply of Hellfire missiles, which will be used as armament for the AW149 support helicopters.
Today we signed a contract for the supply of Hellfire missiles. They will be used as armaments for the AW149 support helicopters and the AH-64E Apache Guardian attack helicopters, Błaszczak wrote on Twitter.
At the end of 2023, the 25th Air Cavalry Brigade will receive the first AW149 helicopters, manufactured at PZL Świdnik. Armed with Hellfire missiles, among other things, it will transport troops and support them from the air, they will also be used for evacuation and search operations.
Development of aviation
Last year, Poland expressed its wish for 96 American AH-64 Apache helicopters, but the date of possible deliveries is not yet known. Poland has yet to approve the purchase of machines by Congress and the State Department.
During the Griffin Shock 23-1 exercise in Bemowo Piskie, which took place two weeks ago, the head of the Department of National Defense said that “very soon Polish pilots will begin training on Apaches and the first Apaches will be funded by resources from the US army to the Polish Army in the supplement formula, ie in the formula that fills a certain gap before the contract for the purchase of 96 Apache helicopters for the Polish Army is signed and executed”.
