President Andrzej Duda’s decision can be expected shortly, Presidential Minister Andrzej Dera said on TVN 24, referring to the law establishing a commission to investigate Russian influence in Poland. The analyzes are complete, the president will publicly announce the decision, he added.
Andrzej Dera, when asked what President Andrzej Duda would do regarding the law on the Commission for Investigating Russian Influence in Poland, said that “you can expect a decision from the president shortly”.
It will be announced publicly, because openness of public life is also a constitutional value
he stressed.
When the host recalled that the president has three weeks to make a decision, Dera assured that “it will be a shorter deadline to make a decision.”
The analyzes are completed, the decisions are made by the president and announced publicly
he stressed.
As he added, “the law was rejected by the Senate and from then on, analyzes of this law were conducted in the president’s chancery.”
Commission assumptions
On April 14, the Sejm passed a law on the appointment of a commission to investigate Russian influence on Poland’s internal security in the years 2007-2022, drafted by PiS deputies. On May 11, the Senate passed a resolution to reject this bill. On Wednesday, the Sejm’s Administration and Home Affairs Committee recommended that the Senate’s resolution be passed by the Sejm. In Friday’s vote, the Sejm voted against the Senate resolution to reject the bill.
By law, the commission must operate under principles similar to those of the Warsaw reprivatization review commission.
The committee would analyze official activities, create, duplicate, share information with third parties; influencing the content of board decisions; making harmful decisions; making advance directives on behalf of a government agency or company; entering into contracts or disposing of public or corporate funds.
The decisions that the committee could take include: revoking an administrative decision issued as a result of Russian influence, issuing a ban on performing functions related to the disposal of public funds for maximum 10 years, and revocation and prohibition of security clearances for 10 years.
