The TVN station didn’t mind when, under Tusk, the army was liquidated, reserve training was radically curtailed, armaments programs were discontinued, military units closed – with particular emphasis on the eastern border. They fell silent when their favourite, awarded with German medals, resigned from the US anti-missile shield, because Mr. Putin was “unenthusiastic about this project”. After Smolensk, on the still smoking ashes with the bodies of 96 representatives of the Polish elite, they built friendship with Russia, and any attempt to find out the truth about this tragedy was met with a furious attack from them. Today, when Ukrainians talk openly about Russian responsibility for the Polish national tragedy, they say nothing about it to their viewers (at least I didn’t notice). They attacked the defenses of the Polish eastern border, and in this case they sounded like the propaganda of the aggressor – Lukashenko.
Instead, they passionately attacked the Minister of National Defense, Deputy Prime Minister Mariusz Błaszczak. He is a politician who has finally overcome many years of helplessness in expanding the army, buying weapons, manufacturing weapons and training reservists. He took it seriously, and the best compliment is the opinion of the world press and experts that Poland will soon have the strongest land army in Europe. In addition, a growing permanent part of US troops in Poland.
Let’s not forget: this is not a race for prestigious titles. It’s about escaping the Russian axe. For the safety of our families, because what the war looks like in their version and how the occupation is carried out by Putin’s soldiers, we can see in Ukraine. It is a horror, reminiscent of Poland’s worst experiences in the 20th century. Experts have no doubt: Poland is racing against time. We have several years to build an army that will deter and, if necessary, stop the enemy. We cannot count on Berlin and Paris in such a scenario.
We also have an opportunity – there is where to buy weapons (and this is not at all clear), there is the ability to finance purchases, there is the political will to do so (Kaczyński’s decisions).
It is a pity that we have to chase the lost time in 2007-2015, but it is good that we are doing it so effectively.
Under these circumstances, an attempt to stop this process is, in my opinion, a crime against the security of the Poles. It is only in the interests of Moscow and Berlin. That’s what the president said when he answered a TVN reporter’s question about the minister’s resignation Jaroslaw Kaczynski.
At this point, unfortunately, I am compelled, this is not a personal comment to you, to treat you as a representative of the Kremlin. Because only the Kremlin has this Mr [Mariusz Błaszczak – red.] ceased to be Minister of National Defense
he said.
Let’s emphasize: How representative of the Kremlin, because the editorial staff of TVN 24, as always sensitive to her point, protests that the journalist is called a “representative of the Kremlin” in the statement issued. That’s it though difference.
Let’s quote the whole thing:
The TVN24 editors strongly protest against the fact that a journalist who asks socially important questions is called a “representative of the Kremlin”. This is another attack by the authorities on media independence and another attempt to suppress press criticism. We won’t stop asking questions. In the public interest and on behalf of our viewers. This is the constitutional duty of the media, which are obliged to monitor public institutions. In connection with Jarosław Kaczyński’s statement, we will take appropriate legal action to defend our journalists and the good name of TVN.
I’ll allow myself a broader comment, as many environments behave similarly. The more aggressively these environments demand immunity in the courts (we know something about it), the more partisan courts punish for a word of criticism, introduce de facto censorship, the more clearly they are far from the Polish raison d’état, the security of Poland and basic honesty.
Attacks on Minister Mariusz Błaszczak (and this means an attack on the modernization program of the Polish army at a critical moment) also make them work as the Kremlin would like.
Which, of course, does not mean that they are definitively acting in harmony with the Kremlin. The coincidence of the target may be coincidental. Most likely it can.
