“I think, as in 2015, if we win the election, we will definitely not agree. There will be no such decision because it is a violation of democracy and I hope that most countries will join it,” said PiS MEP Anna Zalewska in an interview with the wPolityce.pl portal in the context of the relocation of immigrants in the EU. .

wPolityce.pl: The European Commission wants countries of the European Union that do not want to participate in the relocation of migrants to pay a “financial equivalent” of PLN 22,000. euros per migrant. There is talk of enforcing “solidarity”. Is this blackmail?
Anna Zalewska: The European Commission and the Commissioner call it very nice that it is not coercion but responsibility and solidarity. In addition to this responsibility and solidarity, they already see concrete figures – that is 35,000 illegal immigrants. I think we should emphasize it all the time – so as not to confuse this concept with war refugees who are guests in Poland, among others. Here the exact number is 35,000, but it is openly said that it could be as high as 120,000. Of course there are statements that there is freedom, that you cannot accept immigrants, but you have to pay 22,000 for each illegal immigrant. euros.
France believes that this is even an insufficient amount, probably because Paris is in serious financial trouble and with illegal immigration, which they themselves have caused. They demand that their wrong policies be held accountable across the European Union and that collective responsibility and consequences be taken. Interestingly, our ambassador, Mr. Sadoś, reminded us at the meeting of the European Union ambassadors that we host war refugees, where the benevolence of the European Union was limited to €200 per refugee. This shows the double standards of the European Union.
Exactly, what can cause this difference that the European Commission transfers 200 euros for one Ukrainian refugee in Poland, and asks us 22,000 euros in the “equivalent” for one migrant?
I think this is the result of a certain EU policy towards Poland. It is doing everything it can to prevent the United Right from winning the elections, but of course this also influences the decisions of all member states. It shifts the lack of competence, skills, because keep in mind that since 2015 there are already such ideas from the coalition of Platforma Obywatelska and PSL, who said that we would accept seven thousand illegal immigrants in the beginning, and in fact we can accept some of them, and because Poland can bear it. In fact, the mere fact that they lost the election blocked the European Union’s consent to this kind of action. The fact is that since 2015 neither France nor the Germans, Italians or Spaniards have been able to develop systems in their country, because they want to shift the responsibility for it to all Member States. This is again clear evidence that the EU does not find solutions in crisis situations.
You have already said that Germany and France are demanding an increase in the minimum number of immigrants admitted and the money allocated to them, while Slovakia, Croatia and Hungary would support Poland’s position. Where does this discrepancy come from? Do Berlin and Paris simply want to burden our region with the costs of mistakes in their own migration policies?
Naturally. Keep in mind that even the Ukrainians have said loudly and publicly that no one wants them in Germany, that their conditions are difficult there. Not only that, individual German countries turned to their central authorities and to parliament that they could not organize and support a single person from the outside. This shows that they are mainly on the fringes of the organization, and therefore, given the organizational state of Poland (we must remind you that it was a huge effort from the Poles to bear this obligation), they wanted to fulfill all obligations to transfer to us arising from their policies. After all, we remember German railway stations with inscriptions “Herzlich willkommen”.
What then threatens Poland if the government does not agree to move and pay the “equivalent”?
I think, as in 2015, if we win the election, we will definitely not agree. There will be no such decision, because it is a violation of democracy and I hope that most countries will join it. So far it was the first such open discussion with the ambassadors, and the European Council is ahead of us. This is an endless discussion since 2015 – then there was no permission to launch this mechanism, this time it will be similar. The basic condition is our victory in the elections.
Hypothetically assuming that the Civic Platform will win the parliamentary elections in the autumn, do you think the new government of the current opposition will be able to bend to the demands of the European Union?
I don’t think so, I’m sure it will bend. I see how my colleagues from PO and PSL, the left and the entire total opposition in Poland vote the way they behave. On the other hand, they vote for all opinions that exclude the exclusive competence of the Member States, they absolutely support the abolition of the right of veto and the unanimity rule, but also in resolutions dealing with the subject of illegal immigration, they do not even mention illegal immigration. I guarantee you that we will immediately open the borders to illegal immigrants if Civic Platform wins the elections.
How might the new mandatory compensation in the form of an “equivalent” for not accepting an immigrant affect the shape of the European Union’s centralization? Can we say that this is a form of taxation on “multi-culti” that we do not want to accept?
Yes, it can be defined differently. The European Commission, on the other hand, simply suffers from a dramatic lack of money. The European Union and all its institutions live mainly on the contributions of the Member States. There is a multi-annual financial framework for participation in customs duties and VAT, among other things, but it also has ambitions to become a financially independent structure. So decisions that are made in terms of equity — so 25 percent. revenue of each member state from the ETS, which is not spoken about out loud, but of course there are all sorts of attempts to cram sanctions into all climate documents to take all countries to the Court of Justice and enforce, order, seek for extra money. So it’s all well thought out and planned.
