“We will strongly oppose all mechanisms of forced displacement of migrants in the countries of the European Union; we believe that such mechanisms should not take place – our government’s position is unchanged here, said government spokesman Piotr Müller.
In the Sejm, the government spokesman was questioned on the issues of de facto mandatory relocation of migrants to EU member states during a conversation with journalists. According to PAP information, the European Commission has returned to this matter.
The EC wants EU countries that do not want to participate in the relocation of migrants to pay a “financial equivalent” of PLN 22,000. euros per migrant. According to PAP, such a proposal was presented on Wednesday by EU Commissioner for Home Affairs Ylva Johansson to the ambassadors of the member states.
Our government’s position here is unchanged. We believe that any mechanism of forced relocation should not take place and we will strongly oppose it
Muller said.
Johansson’s proposal is a resumption of the discussion that started in 2015 with the migration crisis in the EU. Some countries did not want to agree to it at the time. As a result, the EC initiated procedures for breaching EU law against these countries, including Poland.
According to PAP information, the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Poland to the EU, Andrzej Sadoś, pointed out during talks with Johansson that in Poland one million refugees from Ukraine enjoy international protection and that the EU has provided them with 200 million euros. He stressed that the EC has earmarked €200 for one refugee from Ukraine, while at the same time planning to charge countries that do not want to take in irregular migrants under the forced relocation mechanism an amount of €22,000. euros. This, he noted, is a gross mismatch.
According to PAP, the European Commission is proposing to relocate 30,000 people to other EU countries. migrants, with the possibility of growing to 120,000. people. At Wednesday’s meeting, France and Germany indicated that they want to relocate at least 35,000 people, according to unofficial information. migrants. Paris would also declare that 22 thousand. Euro equivalent for a migrant is certainly not enough. Meanwhile, support for Poland’s position would be expressed by Slovakia, Croatia and Hungary, among others.
The compulsion of solidarity
Solidarity must be ensured. That is why the Commission has proposed a system of compulsory solidarity. Member States will be able to decide on solidarity measures. These may include relocation, financial and operational support. It is important that Member States that need support receive it
spokeswoman Anita Hipper told PAP.
Poland and some EU countries oppose the relocation proposal.
The Swedish Presidency of the EU also commented on this issue.
Mandatory relocation was, is and will not be included in the proposal. Mandatory solidarity is another matter. Countries of first entry need support in their important work related to external border management. But mandatory relocation is out of the question
Maria Stenergard, Sweden’s Migration Minister, wrote on Twitter.
The EC intends to present a new proposal for asylum and migration reform, which aims to solve the problems of the southern European countries with regard to the influx of migrants.
The third option mentioned by the EC, namely operational support, would consist in providing, for example, technical assistance to countries facing the influx of refugees, for example in the form of tents or humanitarian aid. However, this would have to be requested by a country that is having problems with the influx of migrants.
In practice, countries could therefore only choose between two options: relocation of migrants or a financial equivalent of 22,000 euros. euros for a migrant they refuse to accept.
The next discussion on this subject will take place at the meeting of the ambassadors of the Member States.
Poland opposes the relocation proposal
There is no and there will be no permission for the forced displacement of migrants to Poland
– said the Minister of the Interior and Administration Mariusz Kamiński.
