“Because of the mistakes made by Germany, for which all Europeans must pay and which Germany wants to blame on the entire EU, we must move away from Berlin’s dominance in Europe and return to the principles of equality of Member States and pluralism. Prof. Zdzisław Krasnodębski, sociologist, PiS MEP, former Vice President of the European Parliament.
prof. In an interview with the wPolityce.pl portal, Zdzisław Krasnodębski referred to the words of the German ambassador to Poland, Thomas Bagger, who admitted that Germany had made a mistake regarding the Nord Stream project. However, the diplomat defended Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s controversial proposals aimed at eliminating unanimity in the European Union and increasing the centralization of the EU.
The ambassador is a good ambassador who implements the policy of his country. I would like all Polish ambassadors to be equally loyal, because I remember the times when Polish ambassadors attacked Poland in 2005-2007, when our Polish ambassador to Germany criticized the Polish government. This shows something that we should imitate in a positive way
says Prof. Zdzislaw Krasnodębski.
As for the statement itself, I think we cannot agree on the principle of unanimity in the European Union, and both the German Chancellor and the Ambassador know that very well. On the other hand, it is possible to discuss a change in the voting system in the Union, but it should reduce the weight of the votes of the countries that led to a deep energy crisis in the European Union and its dependence on Russia , which also applies to the country that the ambassador represents
he adds.

Consequences of German mistakes
The German ambassador decided to confess that Germany did not always make the right decisions in the field of international and energy policy. In this regard, he criticized Berlin’s involvement in the Nord Stream I and II projects as grave errors. Bagger also admitted that “several German governments” were responsible for this situation, but did not point to any specific culprits.
In my opinion, Germany continues to make mistakes, as in the issue we are discussing, which would increase its dominance in the European Union. These mistakes, which the ambassador admits but does not attach any consequences to, should take us in a completely different direction. In the Union, the right of individual states to block certain decisions they do not like in the most important, strategic matters
says Prof. Krasnodębski.

Because of the mistakes made by Germany, for which all Europeans must pay and which Germany wants to blame on the entire Union, we must move away from Berlin’s dominance in Europe and return to the principles of equality of Member States and pluralism. This of course means that we need to think about a different way of weighting votes that would remove this dominance.

Shifting responsibility
Ambassador Bagger describes Chancellor Angela Merkel’s migration policy in very austere and ambiguous terms, with which Germany and the whole of Europe struggle to this day. Like Olaf Scholz, the German diplomat would like to establish a common migration policy for the European Union, with the aim of alleviating the problem of immigrants and jointly bearing the costs of their influx from 2015. However, Professor Krasnodębski rejects the agreement on the matter in the form proposed by Berlin.
A common migration policy is not just an idea and Germany’s current concept, it has been developed and prepared since 2015. Not all EU member states agree. The case has been on hold for years and I don’t think we can agree on these issues
admits the sociologist.
However, if a compromise were possible, an acceptable solution, it would certainly not be a proposal that Angela Merkel ever pursued. If anything changes in European policy, it must be based on compromises and broad support from Member States. It must go in a different direction than the earlier German proposals
concluded the MEP.
