“Proximity to the border with Russia, sanctions – all this makes it increasingly difficult to invest here,” said PO chairman Donald Tusk in Olsztyn (Warmińsko-Mazurskie Voivodeship), accusing the government of all alleged negligence. There was also a mobilization call for the elections “I would like to end with such a warm appeal to you to awaken the belief in victory and the feeling of a fair fight, but one crowned with a victory” – he said, which sounds extremely cynical in his mouth!
Tusk summed up KO MPs’ two-day visit to the province at a meeting of the Civic Coalition club in Olsztyn on Tuesday. warmińsko-mazurskie. He calculated that there were 76 events in the region with the participation of 77 KO parliamentarians, including 16 open meetings. He remembered his meeting with the inhabitants of Lidzbark Warmiński.
Heavy school bag of a student?
The primary school leader said he was impressed by a student from group 4 who asked, among other things: about heavy school bags, too much homework and a school with an overcrowded curriculum. The boy also said that his back hurt from carrying the school bag.
It sounded like a very accurate metaphor
Tusk said, adding that he meant the burden placed on parents, students and teachers. But the former prime minister did not mention that “heavy schoolbags” were always mentioned, even during his reign.
Proximity to the border with Russia, sanctions and investments
Tusk also referred to the words of one of the local entrepreneurs who, during a meeting with KO MPs, spoke about problems associated with running a business, including finding people who want to work.
The lack of hands is something that those who start or run their own businesses experience as something very painful, often a lack of motivation to work
he said.
He pointed out that this is especially important in this area.
That is also the problem of our border area. The proximity of the border with Russia, sanctions – all this makes it increasingly difficult to invest here. The sense of security here is less than in other regions of Poland. Tourism, as in Podlasie (…) – here too the war and the pandemic have left their mark
he said.
At the same time, the PO chairman threatened that entrepreneurs in such critical places and times “will not survive in the coming years from governments that, contrary to clichés and slogans, have done so little to help people, for example in the belt on the border with Russia or Belarus.”
Tusk also pointed out that in tourist regions such as Warmia and Masuria, issues related to the state of the environment, forests and clean lakes are important. He criticized state institutions, including Polish waters, which he accused of incompetence.
Here every felled tree hurts even more than in other regions of Poland. So that the generally understood protection of our waters and our forests is probably also enough motivation to win
he said.
Tusk talks about “fair fight”?
The subject of elections could not be omitted from Tusk’s speech. The PO leader repeated his ritual incantations of “victory” in October.
I would like to end today’s introductory words with such a fervent appeal as to awaken the belief in victory and the sense of a fair fight crowned with victory.
– he said, although the combination of the words Tusk, PO and “fair fight” contradict each other. Suffice it to mention the propaganda lies and accusations that are constantly being leveled against PiS.
In the mobilizing part of his speech, he also referred to the sporting past of KO MPs.
We have athletes in our ranks (…). There are people in our ranks who could win when they were outstanding world-class athletes. Lead us to such a victory in October as well. I am convinced that this October final can be even more impressive than the Italian one
Tusk said.
KO politicians visit in Olsztyn
Jacek Protas, the chairman of the PO in Warmia and Masuria, spoke about the specificity of the region, which was peripheral for many years. He said that these areas were stripped by the Red Army and looters after World War II, and that there were no central investments in infrastructure during the time of the People’s Republic of Poland. He added that the border with Russia only brought benefits to the region for the development of trade and tourism for about 20 years, related to its proximity to the Königsberg region.
But the times that have come have come and today this border is once again an obstacle to development. Our region is really peripheral. The only such region in Poland and Europe, which has a 200 km border with Russia and this border is a burden, not an advantage
said Protas.
According to him, the first governments after Poland’s accession to the EU were a good time for the voivodship. He charged that after 2015, the PiS authorities decided to issue a bill for the voivodeship in which they failed to win the elections (since 2006, the PO-PSL coalition rules the regional government). He claimed that government aid goes to so-called their regions. As an example, he gave money from the government’s Local Investment Program: the second and third tranche for warmińsko-mazurskie province was PLN 220 million, and for Podkarpackie province PLN 600 million – he said. According to Protas, Warmia and Masuria need much more support to catch up with the richer regions.
Miron Sycz, deputy marshal of the voivodeship, referring to the visit of KO parliamentarians, said that “there has never been such an invasion of Warmia and Masuria”. He believed it would certainly bear fruit.
I know how much our competitors are investing to win over this region. Virtually from the beginning of the creation of the province. Warmia-Masuria, we rule all the time (…). They cannot agree with the fact that this is the only voivodeship of this so-called Eastern Poland always moves to the West, to civilization. And that’s how it will be now
Sycz said.
Warmińsko-Mazurskie was the 13th voivodeship visited by PO politicians as part of the “#Here is the Future” campaign.
