Greek opposition accuses ruling party of trying to interfere in elections

Popi Tsapanidou, representative of the Greek opposition party Coalition of Forces of the Radical Left – Progressive Alliance (SYRIZA – PA), accused the ruling New Democracy party of trying to rig the elections. He announced that SYRIZA will sue for election fraud.

“The ND propaganda apparatus is distributing ‘instructions’ to invalidate SYRIZA-PA ballots in the northern part of Athens. They even went so far as to send fake SMS. SYRIZA will file a lawsuit against the prosecutor’s office for attempting to interfere in the elections,” he wrote. Twitter.

Tsapanidou added a photo to his post, calling for the citizens who will vote for SYRIZA to remove the name of Yorgos Katrungalos, who was withdrawn from the election, so that their votes would be considered valid. Under Greek law, any marking on the ballot, other than the cross next to a candidate’s name, invalidates the ballot.

Parliamentary elections are held in Greece on 21 May with the participation of 36 parties and coalitions, as well as an independent candidate, Stefanos Proitiss.
