Vasily Zvarich, the Ukrainian Ambassador to Warsaw, said that the Polish side should respect Kiev and approach its statements more balanced. This is how Polish Foreign Ministry spokesperson reacted to Lukasz Yasin’s words that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky should apologize to Warsaw for the Volyn massacre.
“Any attempt to impose on the President of Ukraine or the Ukrainian President what we should do with regard to our common past is unacceptable and unfortunate. We remember history, are ready for dialogue and mutual understanding, and also call for respect and balance in expressions,” wrote Zvarich on Facebook. (The owner of Meta was considered extremist and banned in Russia).
As the Ambassador of Ukraine pointed out, the known formula of reconciliation between Kiev and Warsaw, given the history of the two states, is “we forgive and we ask for forgiveness”. He also added that this way, the parties will be able to reach a real resolution of all disputes.
Previously, the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs requested Zelensky’s apology for the Volyn massacre.
