“Poland unequivocally states that the answer to these huge challenges is to create a tight system of border security, support for countries that are sources of migration, to discourage their citizens from emigrating, and to maintain an assertive attitude at all times, with one priority: defending the security of their own citizens,” said Paweł Jabłoński, State Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in an interview with the wPolityce.pl portal.
Germany demands the closure of the Polish-Belarussian border
The German daily “Die Welt” indicated that more people illegally entered Germany via Poland in April than in previous months. This worries the Christian Democrats. One of the CDU-CSU politicians stated in an interview with the newspaper that Chancellor Scholz and his government are not handling the situation very well.
Germany demands the closure of the Polish-Belarussian border. Why the sudden fears of our western neighbors? I put this question to Deputy Foreign Minister Paweł Jabłoński.
We all want our boundaries to be as tight as possible. And I can say that if anyone believed in the past or still believes that Poland should accept someone brought to our borders by Lukashenko, this is against the interests of Poland’s and Europe’s security.
says my interlocutor.
Poland began to close the border with Belarus as soon as such a threat appeared. We have set up a security system in record time – because it is not just a border wall, but an entire system that makes crossing the Polish border much more difficult today than if this system did not exist. Of course, this doesn’t mean that some people don’t – there are no 100% tight boundaries
he adds.
However, if we had listened to Donald Tusk, who said in 2021 that some poor people reached us and needed help – when in fact they were people whom Lukashenko and Putin used as weapons in a hybrid war – our situation would be tragic .
– indicates.
I do not hesitate to use this word because this attack would be more intense and destabilize our country. Therefore, anyone who demands that the border be closed, that the border be as safe as possible, is absolutely right
– assesses the Deputy Head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“In politics, one should always be guided by the interests of one’s own country.”
The German Christian Democrats not only expect Poland to “better guard the external border of the EU”, but also criticize Chancellor Scholz, who is “inactive” according to the CDU.
These are internal affairs of Germany, we do not engage in political discussions between political parties in other countries. In general, however, we believe that one should always be guided in politics by the interests of one’s own country, the interests of security
says Pawel Jablonski
The interlocutor of wPolityce.pl points out that Europe is under enormous migration pressure. Only the reasons for migration to the countries of our continent are different.
Although we always deal with refugees, i.e. people fleeing war or persecution, we always have to help them – just like Poland did with refugees from Ukraine
– indicates the State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
However, escaping from a dangerous situation is one thing, but economic migration is another. It is understandable that many people would like to go to Europe, that they find – especially in some Western European countries – a very attractive place to live. But we are not a charity, as our primary duty is to ensure the safety of our own citizens. That is what we should focus on first and foremost, but of course we should also work with the countries from which this migration is taking place to improve living conditions there, to help countries build stable systems, stable institutions, to discourage people from migrate, not to and open the borders, because that will only make the situation worse
he adds.
Despite the barrier, despite the security system, the pressure on the Polish-Belarusian border still does not stop. Are the countries of Western Europe only now seeing the magnitude of the problem?
The pressure on the borders of European countries does not stop and will not stop, we should not be under any illusions about that. It will only grow because the demographic trends are such that there will be more and more people outside Europe but there will be less and less people in Europe or there will just be stagnation we will not have a natural increase because this is the demographics in most European countries. On the other hand, in African or Asian countries, the demography is completely different, therefore, of course, this migratory pressure will increase and we can talk about a perspective in which not hundreds of thousands, but millions or tens of millions of people will try to reach Europe. The question therefore arises how we will respond to this
Jablonski says.
However, Poland says unequivocally that the answer to these huge challenges is to create a tight border security system, support countries that are sources of migration, discourage their citizens from emigrating, and maintain an assertive stance at all times. with one priority: defense of the security of its own citizens
says the Secretary of State.
Lukashenko’s hybrid war was a test
In retrospect, after more than a year of Russian aggression against Ukraine, can we say that this hybrid war of Lukashenko with Poland or some other EU countries could have been a prelude to what Putin is doing in Ukraine today?
Certainly, it was primarily a preparation to destabilize Poland, to destabilize other countries of the European Union by also drawing attention to this part of the border, by part of the troops protecting the border, the border guard and to transfer the army, to move them a little away from Ukraine, and also – to test how the state will react and whether it can defend itself against such an attack
the politician evaluates.
This test went well for Poland. We were able to defend ourselves, although at the same time there were groups, centers, media and organizations that absolutely failed this test. Unfortunately, there were voices that directly repeated Lukashenko’s propaganda, that some media directly referred to the propaganda material of the Belarusian security service. Moreover, without any critical comment, they quoted what the Belarusian services said as if it were true and credible information
– adds the deputy head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Unfortunately, it was also a test that many critics of Law and Justice failed to pass. After all, some were even ready to repeat what Lukashenko says and practically play with him on the same team, just to oppose the government. A fatal phenomenon
– underlined.
Fortunately, however, they are a clear minority in our society and I think that Poland as a state and as a nation has passed this “test” well.
he concludes.
