In just a few days, almost everything has happened in the political field. Jarosław Kaczyński’s political vision collided with desperate ferocity, and Donald Tusk, viciously attacking PiS’s social programs, showed what real primitive populism looks like.
Everyone probably already knows what the Civic Platform leader thinks about the Law and Justice electorate, but it needs to be remembered. It is difficult to find greater contempt than the one he presented in Sulechów. He argued that there must be a major change that will restore normality, i.e. a state that promotes, supports and facilitates the lives of hardworking people, and does not give money to underachievers.
Everything in Poland has been turned upside down for several years, ie the kings of life are those who drink, beat their children, beat women, and have not disgraced themselves with work for many years. A dream political clientele for the authorities, who themselves have a very similar way of thinking to this clientele.
How can you gain trust by insulting others so horribly? How would Donald Tusk rule the country with such hatred for nearly 40% of PiS voters? How does it distinguish the pro-pisov sluts from the opposition supporters who also benefit from government social programs? And how on earth could he keep these programs going if he thought they were so corrupting?
However, it turns out that absolutely anything can happen in this campaign. The weekend program hive showed that PiS has a vision of the state, has ideas to stimulate the economy for further development, wants to maintain social programs and increase benefits. Family 500+ turned into 800+ knockout Tusk. He didn’t dare challenge the benefits again. Overnight he played the role of advocate of “PiS distribution” and appealed to the government to launch 800+ on June 1.
What cheap, vulgar populism. Let him throw it as a joke. However, Tusk announced the bill. He knows very well that there is no physical possibility to carry out this legislative process. Moreover, it will have to be rejected for obvious reasons, because this year’s budget does not foresee such an increase in benefit costs. Law and Justice calculated the increase from 500+ to PLN 800, it will cost about PLN 24 billion, or 0.7-0.8 percent. GDP. The government’s assurances show that these funds are foreseen in next year’s budget, including the next phase of tax reduction. Tusk knows full well that it’s unrealistic to topple the budget mid-year, so he’s playing populist stuff, apparently believing that PiS’s vote against indexing 500+ will erode support.
But what should his voters think of Donald Tusk? What do those who applauded him in Sulechów for criticizing “PiS distribution” and roared with derisive laughter? If they bothered to think more deeply, not only would they probably distance themselves from everything Tusk tells them, but they might be able to understand that the PO leader is insulting them as well.
