I remember the summer of 2015 and the three-day meeting of law and justice politicians in Katowice. It was a very broad discussion about Poland, about different areas of life. It’s the same today, a broad view of the state and its citizens is to ensure the United Right’s success in the fall elections.
Then, in 2015, I was really amazed at how extensive the thematic scope of the expert and political panels was as part of the “Thinking Poland” program convention. From fundamental issues: economics, economics or defense to seemingly less important matters such as culture or historical politics.
Today, after more than seven years of rule, PiS is meeting in a beehive. The association should be clear, with hard work to achieve joint success. Again, it’s thematically broad. At the end of his second term, the United Right is well aware of which areas have been successful and which need improvement. So we are talking about social programs, family policies and the difficult situation that not only Poland, COVID and war have brought us.
There are also less obvious things. I really liked the comparison quoted by the Minister of Sports and Tourism, Kamil Bortniczuk, who said that the path of an athlete is the desired educational path for future generations of Poles. Often a talented person, but usually do not achieve outstanding successes without hard training and consistent work. This is also – it seems obvious – the path of our dream politicians. People who know how to combine their popularity (this is important in politics) with effort, and do not stop at fleeting “fame”.
We are now entering a time when politics will show its cards. Let’s demand that they present their ideas, not just wishes and spells. If they promise something, let the calculation do the talking. Let us not be misled by emotions and populist, simple, even vulgar associations that should impress upon us who is responsible for the high prices. The slogans you see on billboards all over Poland – even opposition politicians admit it – are “not quite true”. The Civic Platform is of course behind the “PiS = Expensive” campaign. Is this a serious proposal? Is this an invitation to debate? No, it’s an exercisetoo simple association. It must be admitted that this campaign was successful, because this is a difficult time for all of us. The PR man who came up with it showed talent. What will the opposition do about it? Don’t you also expect him to want to work hard next time? How in beehive?
