We know that we need to further develop Polish agriculture; it is necessary to rebuild breeding and Polish processing – stressed the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Robert Telus on Saturday in Warsaw at the PiS program convention.
“We have to prepare programs for different crises.”
We know that we must continue to develop Polish agriculture, that we must prepare programs that will allow the development of agriculture
– said the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Robert Telus on Saturday in Warsaw at the PiS programming convention.
As he added, Law and Justice primarily wants to end the situation that has arisen after the outbreak of war in Ukraine, which is associated with “an economic war, an economic war”.
We have to prepare programs for different crises, we have to introduce mechanisms that allow us to deal with a situation like that of Ukraine, because we will continue to live with Ukraine and its goods. Mechanisms that we will prepare together with the European Union – and we can already do – that will ensure that the Polish farmer does not lose money on the transport of food through our country, but that he earns money from it, that the Polish entrepreneur will make money from it
Telus emphasizes.

“If we had high-level agriculture, we wouldn’t have a problem with grain.”
According to him, the next thing to do is to “rebuild Polish breeding”. He recalled that the ASF epidemic had a negative impact on Polish breeding.
If we were breeding at a high level, we wouldn’t have a problem with grain. We need breeding that is developed in such a way that it will balance our grain production. We are strongly emphasizing this and we are already doing it – the issue of introducing animal welfare is a continuation of the reconstruction of breeding
Telus said.
He also pointed to problems with the profitability of agricultural production.
As Poland, we have lost something very important: we have no Polish processing
said the Minister of Agriculture.
As he noted, it was sold during the transformation.
We will rebuild Polish processing. The Polish farmer does not decide on the prices of his production, it is the concern that comes and buys that decides. We will change it
stated the Minister of Agriculture.
“In the countryside, the harvester and the rooster must not be disturbed”
Robert Telus also stressed that agriculture is a priority in rural areas.
We are hospitable and happy when city dwellers come to live with us. But for all guests, remember that rural farming is a priority. If I moved to Lodz, I wouldn’t be able to criticize that there are trams in Lodz. In the countryside, the harvester and the rooster must not be disturbed
said the minister.
He emphasized the will to develop agriculture.
Polish agriculture is very important to us, it is a very important sector of the economy
Telus said.
The Ministry of Agriculture is working on the so-called Spanish law
The Ministry of Agriculture is working on a so-called Spanish law that guarantees agricultural producers that their crops will not be bought below production costs, Agriculture Minister Robert Telus said on Saturday.
We need – and Mrs Gembicka (Deputy Minister of Agriculture Anna Gembicka – PAP) is already working on it – the Spanish law. It is the only country that has a law guaranteeing that a buyer cannot buy below a farmer’s cost price. I was in Spain, I spoke with the Minister of Agriculture (Spain – PAP) and we will try to make and implement such a law to ensure profitability
– said Agriculture Minister Robert Telus at the PiS programming convention in Warsaw.
In December 2021, regulations that will affect, among other things, the fruit and vegetable trade and relationships between producer and distributor. One of the rules is that the buyer cannot buy agricultural products from the farmer below the cost of production. This solution is to give producers a better bargaining position and provide them with more income.
The head of the Ministry of Agriculture also pointed out the need to establish breeding programs.
Breeding programs are very important. We have a very well-functioning livestock program in Poland and poultry farming is well developed. We need to develop a fattening pig breeding program, we need to modernize it, taking AVP into account. We also need to have a fruit and vegetable program, this is a very important area
Telus said.
He also pointed out that the operation of agricultural advisory centers, which have been taken over by the government administration from the marshals of the voivodeships, is very important.
There’s still a lot to do here, it’s about paving the way between science – advice – farmer. What matters is that the knowledge created at universities and in our institutes is taken by the advisory centers and delivered to the farmer
said the minister.
The minister also referred to the issue of social insurance for farmers, namely the Agricultural Social Insurance Fund.
There are many politicians in the Sejm who say that KRUS should be liquidated. I mean, as long as we’re in power, we’re not going to let that happen. The Prime Minister has repeatedly said that as long as we are in power, KRUS will exist and function in this system
said Robert Telus.
The head of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development also drew attention to the processing challenge.
As Polish agriculture, we lose that we don’t have our Polish processing, that we don’t have fragmented processing
– emphasized the minister, making the reservation that he was not talking about state-owned processing.
According to Telus, the problem is that farmers do not decide on the price of products.
The prize is determined by whoever receives it, usually the company
– added.
