“The European Commission has an ideological approach to the fight against climate change, motivated by the naive belief that it has a mission that it will carry out regardless of the economic and social costs,” said PiS MEP Kosma Złotowski about the Fit for 55 package.
That is why very often the expectations of the citizens of the Member States are not taken into account or they are only presented with an enthusiastic vision of the future, ignoring the real cost of this transformation
he adds.
Anyone who calls for moderation, especially when it comes to the pace of change, is labeled a polluter and an enemy of environmental protection, which is blatant nonsense
– stressed the MEP.
He points out that the farmers’ protests in the Netherlands are proof that sooner or later the truth will reach the voters.
Similar demonstrations can be expected in the future, also in connection with the ban on registration of internal combustion vehicles or the extension of the ETS to transport and buildings. This is not how citizens whose expectations are met do not react
– concludes Kosma Zlotowski.
A package of guidelines
so-called “Fit for 55” is a package of directives and legal requirements drawn up by the Commission, which should lead to a reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by at least 55%. by 2030 (compared to 1990) and climate neutrality by 2050.
These legal acts regulate, among other things: a ban on the sale of new combustion engine cars after 2035; changes to the emissions trading system (ETS), after which the sectors already covered by the ETS must reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 62% by 2030. compared to the level in 2005; phasing out free allowances in 2026-2034; establishment of a separate ETS II system for fuels used in road transport and for heating buildings in 2027; establishing a Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), whereby importers of goods such as iron, steel, cement, aluminium, fertilizers, electricity and hydrogen will have to pay the difference between the emission compensation in the country of production and the price of allowances for emissions in the EU ETS; significant reduction in methane emissions from mining and agriculture.
