We will nominate candidates for the Senate in all districts, one of the leaders of non-partisan local governments, Lubin Mayor Robert Raczyński, announced in an interview with PAP. The politician also called the “Senate Pact” – anti-democratic.
In an interview with PAP, Raczyński said that impartial local governments will act independently in the upcoming parliamentary elections.
We are building our own representation, we hope that it will be parliamentary
– he said.
We also assume that we nominate our candidates for the Senate. We’re going to deploy them in a hundred provinces
– said one of the leaders of non-partisan local governments.
It will be a great organizational effort and a challenge for us, but we will try
he noticed.
Criticism of the Senate Pact
Note that the non-partisan local government will compete with the so-called. “Senate pact”, i.e. an agreement between opposition groups and local government officials associated with them, Raczyński replied:
I think this is a terrible misunderstanding, because if the senate pact is trying to deny us the right to run, what democratic forces are we talking about? These are in fact anti-democratic forces, they fit the description of Polish reality, ie anti-democratic forces.
The first senatorial pact was concluded by the main opposition groups – KO, PSL and the left before the parliamentary elections in 2019. Although it was not strictly observed everywhere (for example in Łódź, former PO politician Krzysztof Kwiatkowski ran as an independent candidate and defeated candidate from the left, Małgorzata Niewiadomska-Cudak, there were also districts where, for example, PSL and left-wing candidates competed), thanks to him, the opposition jointly won the elections to the Senate, although the elections to the Sejm were won by Law and Justice.
