The Ministry of Development of Local Communities and Infrastructure of Ukraine has decided to temporarily suspend the obligation to hold permits for Polish carriers carrying out transports to Ukraine from any country of the European Union; this is to unblock the Dorohusk-Jagodzin border crossing, the ministry announced on Sunday.
The decision aims to resolve the situation related to the blocking of the Dorohusk-Jagodzin border crossing by Polish carriers and to meet one of the main demands of the protesters, namely the imposition of sanctions for the lack of permits for transport to Ukraine from third EU countries.
From Monday, May 8, Polish carriers will be able to carry out transports from any country of the European Union to Ukraine without proper permits and requirements regarding vehicle environmental standards, the Ukrainian ministry said.
Currently, more than 5,000 trucks cannot pass our largest border crossing. In conditions of limited capacity and blockade of seaports, smooth distribution of cargo is impossible. We are grateful to our Polish friends for their continued support in resisting the aggressor and we count on further dialogue to open the border. We have taken the first step, we are waiting for the next one
— emphasized the Deputy Minister of Development of Local Communities and Infrastructure of Ukraine Serhiy Derkach.
Agreement with the European Union
The ministry also recalled that according to the agreement between Ukraine and the European Union on road transport of goods, bilateral and transit transport is not subject to licensing.
