For 90 years, the Canadian Polish Congress has supported the Polish community in Canada and the entire Polish community; we remember the support in the difficult times of martial law, as well as the activities for Poland’s membership in NATO – emphasized the presidential couple Andrzej Duda and Agata Kornhauser-Duda.
“We are grateful for that.”
The Canadian Polish Congress (KPK), the largest Polish community organization in Canada, celebrates its 90th anniversary. On this occasion, the presidential couple – Andrzej Duda and Agata Kornhauser-Duda – published a recording on Twitter on Sunday.
On behalf of the Poles in the country, we greet all those who attended the jubilee of the Canadian Polish Congress. We extend a warm welcome to Poles and Canadians with Polish roots, creating a Polish community of nearly one million in Canada
said President Andrzej Duda.
The first lady emphasized that the Congress has been integrating this community for 90 years and supporting the entire Polish community.
We remember that during the difficult times of martial law, the Polish diaspora in Canada supported their compatriots by organizing a safe haven across the ocean for thousands of emigrants from Poland. We are grateful for this
– noted Agata Kornhauser-Duda.
We also recall the support of the Polish community in Canada for Polish membership in NATO when our country applied for admission to the Alliance. It was an effective action, and at the same time a beautiful testimony to the solidarity between our national community. Thank you so much to Congress for nurturing it, while at the same time maintaining good relations with the federal and provincial authorities of Canada
said the chairman.
“You build respect and attachment to the common heritage.”
Kornhauser-Duda noted that the organization’s 90 years of existence have been filled with “numerous patriotic, charitable and educational initiatives”.
Thank you for developing scouting, education and the Polish community press, nurturing the Polish language and indigenous traditions, building respect and attachment to common heritage
she stressed.
The president noted that “a beautiful expression of this dedication is Ontario Polish Heritage Month and the May 3rd Constitution Parade.” The presidential couple greeted the organizers and participants of the event.
Congratulations on your wonderful anniversary, we wish you continued success in your work for the Polish community in Canada and in your professional activities, as well as prosperity in your personal life
– said Korhnauser-Duda.
The president stressed that “the achievements of Poles in Canada give cause for pride and joy”.
May these sentiments fill your celebrations and may the activity of Congress continue to strengthen our national community and further develop the Polish-Canadian partnership
– said Andrzej Duda.
History of the Canadian Polish Congress
The Canadian Polish Congress is the current name of the organization that was registered in February 1933 as the Federation of Polish Societies of Canada. There are currently fourteen districts within the KPK. Across Canada, more than 1 million residents are of Polish descent, and more than half of them live in the province of Ontario.
This year the KPK celebrates its 90th anniversary; on this occasion, the Polish flag was raised from the mast in front of Toronto City Hall on Sunday and a parade through the streets of the city center organized by the KPK to mark the 232nd anniversary of the adoption of the May 3 Constitution.
