Two statements by PO politicians in recent days have caught the public’s attention. Borys Budka began by expressing hopes on TOK FM that the march Donald Tusk had called for would be a breakthrough in the PO’s ratings:
I am convinced that the march on June 4 will give such a strong impetus. It will show the strength of people of good will, people who think alike, who want changes in Poland. This is a symbolic date that will become a sure start when it comes to the election campaign, and I believe so right there and summer work will yield results in the polls, but especially in the election results.
The head of the PO caucus, one of the party’s most important politicians, pins all his hopes on the street rallywhich will lead to a breakthrough. But on what basis – it does not explain. We can guess that the scale of this event will be so impressive that it sparked a wave of support across the country. Those who take to the streets take those who stayed at home with them.

But is this a realistic scenario? You can doubt. I do not think that in democratic Poland it has ever happened that a large assembly broke through political trends.
And finally, most importantly, the fact that PO puts so much hope in this one march says everything about the state of the main opposition party. Where is the long-term strategy, laid out years ago and consistently executed? Where are the attractive program proposals that have captured important, large social groups? Where does the careful construction of your own story lead to a tactical advantage? It does not exist. never was. The platform bet all on one card of social anger, on the effects of perceived fatigue with PiS’s rule, and it’s already clear that it misjudged the situation. The other thing is that she wouldn’t be able to play otherwise because she just can’t.
And the second statement. Here is Izabela Leszczyna, presented as the “economic face of the platform”while visiting Radio ZET, she was confronted with an Internet user’s question read by editor Bogdan Rymanowski:
You graduated in Polish Philology and in Philosophy and Ethics. Why is it that you are considered a specialist in finance in your party?
That’s a very good question, but for those who consider me an expert. Please ask them. Many journalists call me that I’ve been invited to several panels but yeah this is a question for these people why do they think that maybe because I was deputy finance minister for almost three years
– answered Izabela Leszczyna surprisingly.
Of course, the public could be wrong in treating Izabela Leszczyna like a financial specialist. More important is something else: the fact that The platform does not mislead the public, does not question this assumption. He consistently sends MP Leszczyna into economic debates and consistently accepts her position as the “economic face” of the PO. Apparently there is no one else. Apparently that’s how it is.
Here is the Platform, once the dominant party in the public debate. These days he “rages with his last strength”, and of course acts less and less as if he has any idea for Poland, other than returning to “what was”. The problem is that the concept of reversing the course of history sounds increasingly archaic these days.
The archaism of the platform is also striking in itself. He talks less and less about modernity, because PiS not only adopted the slogans of the modernization of Poland, but also implemented them. For example, it has won important battles over who builds roads better and faster – both main roads, highways and local roads. PiS also won financially; The platform no longer announces Poland’s imminent bankruptcy, because it has become clear that such a thing will not happen. Poland’s budget has doubled and debt has fallen. “Piniondze” were there and at hand.
The platform is lost. Today is a very tired party, stale, without ideas. It was she – and not PiS – who turned out to be a dinosaur that would become extinct by the judgment of history.
