“There is no place for monuments glorifying the deeds of the Red Army, said Marcin Przydacz, the head of the President’s Office of International Policy, on Polish Radio 1, when asked about the dismantling of such an object in the Opole region .
In Głubczyce (Opolskie Voivodeship), work is underway on the dismantling of a Soviet propaganda object – a monument of “gratitude to the Red Army”.
In a radio conversation, the presidential minister admitted that there were clear opinions about it.
Anyone who has even a little knowledge of history, of what happened during the Second World War, cannot support monuments glorifying the Red Army, because the Red Army was followed by the NKVD, followed by SMERZ, murdered Polish patriots, established a system of communist slavery
he assessed.
It’s not about who the Red Army fought against, but about what. After all, she did not fight for the freedom of Poland, but brought slavery
he stressed.
Burial places of soldiers who died, because it wasn’t just Russians, they were Ukrainians, they were Uzbeks, Kazakhs, are something else. People died, that’s why this cross and the plaque with the name and surname belong to them. But there can be no question of monuments glorifying the deed of the Red Army. I’m surprised we didn’t really start cleaning up historical memory until after 2015.
– added.
No permission for Soviet glorification
There is no place today for monuments glorifying her
– said Marcin Przydacz, adding that the burial places of soldiers who died are slightly different, because they were not only Russians, but also Ukrainians, Uzbeks and Kazakhs, so they deserve a cross and a plaque with their name.
But there can be no question of monuments glorifying the deed of the Red Army
he noticed.
He admitted to being surprised that Poland only started clearing historical memory after 2015.
Until 2015, as we often heard, there were people who said: “No, no, you have to be very gentle with Russia, very calm, because there are no ideological premises” – as Donald Tusk said – to also have the most valuable Polish companies to Russian capital. To say he was naive back then is really an understatement. I think you can say much sharper
said Przydacz.
The demolition of this and other similar monuments is the implementation of the law of April 1, 2016 on the prohibition of promoting communism or any other totalitarian system under the names of organizational units, municipal auxiliary units, buildings, facilities and devices of public utility, and monuments.
The memorial in Głubczyce was erected in 1945 and commemorates 676 soldiers of the Red Army of the 1st Ukrainian Front who fell in March 1945 in the battle for the city.
