According to Ukrayinska Pravda, Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko said that Odessa Mayor Gennady Trukhanov offered his bail in court when his arrest was ordered.
Klitschko declared that he is the head of the Union of Cities of Ukraine (ASU) and must defend the rights and interests of the local government.
“Therefore, the ASU asked the court to release Trukhanov on bail,” he said.
Klitschko noted that Trukhanov is the third mayor “actually dismissed through the court”. At the same time, the mayor of Kiev said that he “does not and will not give bail”, as he often “directs his funds to help the Armed Forces of Ukraine.”
4 May Ukraine Anti-Corruption Supreme Court arrested Trukhanov on suspicion of embezzling more than 92 million hryvnia (more than 1.9 billion rubles) of budget funds when buying the building of the former Krayan factory. The mayor refused to pay bail and was detained for 60 days on 13 million hryvnia bail.
