“This is a typical rebranding i.e. an attempt to change the name of a political formation in order to attract the attention of the public. The selection of place and time and linking it to the defense of sovereignty is certainly a good marketing operation’, says Prof. Arkadiusz Jabłoński, sociologist at the KUL.
In addition, Solidarna Polska has recently increasingly defended various principles related to threats to Polish sovereignty. It started so seriously when the prime minister signed all the post-covid-19 reconstruction guidelines. There, the payment of funds from the EU was linked to a system of conditionality. Then this project Fit for 55 appeared and several ideas dangerous for the Polish economy appeared as part of it. SP politicians are very often portrayed as the ones who warned against this
– points out Prof. Jablonski.
“There should be a more radical wing in ZP
So this idea of sovereignty in the name is related to the narrative most often used by these politicians. I agree with the statement that if Solidarna Polska did not exist, it would have to be invented. There must be a pragmatic part of PiS, but also that which refers to the principles of the United Right, which determined electoral success to some extent in both 2015 and 2019. To count on electoral success again, especially with the growing position of the Confederacy, there must be a more radical wing in the United Right, demanding unpredictability – this position was taken over by Zbigniew Ziobro
– analyzes the sociologist.
Politicians of Sovereign Poland also recalled Donald Tusk’s attitude towards Brussels at their convention.
The possible electoral success of the opposition would be largely due to the European mainstream, which engages in activities that impede the normal functioning of the government, through sanctions imposed on Poland, and the blocking of KPO funds for Poland. The opposition would be grateful, who would have to repay them in some way after an eventual victory, and for politicians like Donald Tusk it will not be a great cost, as he is already building his position as a European politician
says Prof. Jablonski.
