May’s constitution should be the basis of a strong state, whose strength comes from a sense of belonging to a community – created not only by language and traditions, but also by common values and rights, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki stressed on Wednesday.
If we became a nation with the baptism of Poland, then on May 3, 1791, we became one in the modern sense of the word.
Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki wrote this on Facebook on Wednesday.
He pointed out that “May’s constitution should be the basis of a strong state, whose strength comes from a sense of belonging to a community – created not only by language and traditions, but also by common values and rights.”
A state that is resistant to division and foreign influence. This made it so dangerous for absolutism
he stressed.
He also assured that “we want to subordinate our collective life today – and tomorrow” to the same values.
The May 3 National Day is celebrated on the anniversary of the adoption in 1791 of the May 3 Constitution. The document was the first constitution in modern Europe and the second in the world after the American one. The anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution on May 3 is a public holiday established in 1919. During the period of the People’s Republic of Poland, its public celebration was banned and in 1990 it became a national holiday again.
