Hot (literally) happenings in France can make interesting comparisons. “They grill a little differently on May weekends. Are they now banning cars with an internal combustion engine?” – asks Deputy Justice Minister Marcin Romanowski ironically.
The May Day parades saw riots and clashes with police in many French cities, with the largest in Paris, Lyon and Nantes, setting fire to cars, rubbish containers and bus stops. Numerous shops were destroyed. 540 people were detained, including 305 in Paris. 406 policemen and gendarmes were injured.
“Majowka” in France
And as often happens, such events have their own images, which quickly become their symbol. The same can happen with a burning car. Deputy Justice Minister Marcin Romanowski referred to this in his ironic remark.
In France they grill slightly differently in May. Are they now banning cars with an internal combustion engine? Strange this “progressive” Western Europe
Also in other entries, the deputy head of MS wrote about a “picnic in law-abiding and progressive Paris”, as opposed to the “backward barbecue with meat” in Poland.
Some will say there is nothing to joke about. However, the tongue-in-cheek reference to the Polish barbecue idyll compared to brawls in French streets seems to us to accurately demonstrate that the so-called the old democracies are way behind Poland when it comes to internal order. So the French have something to envy us, and we ourselves certainly have reasons to be pleased, although some have been trying to convince us otherwise for years.
