Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev announced that his posts on Twitter were deleted. HE answered To the corresponding question from RIA Novosti on the Telegram channel.
According to him, Twitter is now “how it once was [экс-президентом Дональдом] Trump” when the politician’s account was deleted.
Elon [Маск, глава Twitter] unfortunately we could not cope with this task … But seriously, we can do without it. After all, this is just a foreign social network that operates in the interests of the American establishment. We used it quite cynically to further our propaganda goals,” Medvedev admitted.
Responding to the agency’s question, the Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of Russia emphasized that now “the main task is completely different”: “to inflict a devastating defeat on all enemies.” Among them, he called Ukraine “the United States, its slaves in NATO, including vile Poland, and other Western corporations.” Medvedev congratulated everyone on May 1, promising to “work hard for this”.
What happened?
On April 29, Twitter deleted two of Medvedev’s posts on the social network in English and Russian accounts.
The Russian politician published the first message in English and Polish. In it, Medvedev wrote that “it makes no sense to maintain diplomatic relations with Poland.”
“This state should not exist for us as long as there is no one in power except the Russian enemy, and there is a large number of Polish mercenaries in Ukraine who must be brutally destroyed,” the introduction said.
The site administration has restricted access to the post for violating social networking rules. After that, Medvedev reposted the comment on his Russian blog.
“Twitter management has restricted the display of my last entry in my English account due to violation of some rules. At the same time, records calling for the destruction of Russia appear to be within the site’s rules,” he wrote, accompanying the post with a call to Elon Musk: “So how did you find that, @elonmusk?”
The second entry of the deputy head of the Russian Security Council was also deleted. Both of Medvedev’s Twitter pages now show a notification from management instead of these posts. It says deleted messages “violate Twitter policies”.
Medvedev’s statement on relations with Poland came after Warsaw authorities raided the school grounds of the Russian embassy in Warsaw on April 29.
How Twitter wanted to be legalized in Russia
On April 10, Dmitry Medvedev wrote on Twitter that no one needs Ukraine and therefore “will soon disappear”. Some users opposed, demanding that Musk delete the tweet and block the Russian politician’s blog. But the American businessman denied this: “All news is propaganda to some degree. Let people decide for themselves.”
He later announced that Twitter will “neither promote nor restrict their accounts, but we will quickly stop any attempts to cheat the system.”
After that, the pages of Russian government agencies became available to users of social networks, and accounts of some Western media began to be marked as “state funded”. Signs has already received NPR, “BBC” and a number of other broadcasts. The BBC is demanding the “immediate” removal of the label, arguing that the broadcast has always been “independent”.
On the same day, April 10, Anton Gorelkin, deputy chairman of the State Duma information policy committee, suggested that Twitter be unblocked.
“If the social network is now aimed at neutrality, it is necessary to maintain a dialogue with it and continue to work within the framework of the legislation of the Russian Federation. And for our government departments, Twitter may again become a viable platform to explain Russia’s position to Western audiences.” Wrote MP on Telegram channel.
This initiative was supported by the Safe Internet League.
“I support this proposal. Twitter policy regarding distribution of banned content has changed. Censorship on Russian official accounts has also been lifted,” he said.
However, Roskomnadzor opposed this proposal. TASS, citing the ministry’s press service, writes that the regulator sees no reason to unblock Twitter, as the social network still has not removed 1.3 thousand “banned” material.
The RKN stated that fake content was not removed, including child pornography, drug and suicidal content, posts calling for participation in protests, messages from extremist organizations, the conflict in Ukraine.
“The distribution of other subversive content that contradicts traditional Russian spiritual and moral values continues on the social network,” added Roskomnadzor.
The ministry is confident that popular domestic social services are sufficient for Russians to receive information and communicate.
