“The repatriation process of Poles from Kazakhstan has not been completed. About 7,000 people are waiting to return to their homeland. people. We want to speed up this process. This will be one of the challenges until the end of President Andrzej Duda’s term,” Presidential Minister Andrzej Dera said.
In an interview on Polish Radio, Dera was asked about the progress of the repatriation of Poles from Kazakhstan.
It’s not finished. Currently there are about 7,000 Poles who want to return to Poland. In recent years, the whole procedure and the transfer of Poles living in Kazakhstan to Poland has gained momentum
– he said.
He also said that the President’s Chancellery is working to ensure that as many Poles as possible who express such a wish return to their homeland.
I hope that by the end of Andrzej Duda’s presidency, a significant proportion of these people will be brought to Poland. This will be one of the challenges until the end of the president’s term
he noticed.
Dera said both conceptual and legal work is underway.
We are currently working on a way to speed up this process and so that as many Poles as possible return to our homeland
he noticed.
Since 2002, May 2 has been celebrated, among other things. Day of Polish Diaspora and Poland Abroad. The national holiday was established by the Sejm of the Republic of Poland on the initiative of the Senate of the Republic of Poland. In this way, people living outside Poland, who fought for Polish independence and expressed their attachment to the Republic of Poland, were honored. The Flag Day of the Republic of Poland, which was established in 2004, is also celebrated on May 2.
The most difficult in Belarus
The presidential minister also answered the question about Poland’s situation abroad, especially where armed conflicts take place.
Very difficult. The president recently met in Mościska, where she met with the community at the Polish school. On the one hand, there was joy at the visit of such an important guest, on the other, a very difficult life. In a country where there is war, everything is missing. Last week I was in Kamieniec Podolski in Ukraine and such a visit is always associated with the fact that we bring gifts for Poland
said Dera.
The politician pointed out that the situation in Belarus is the worst of all Polish communities abroad. There, the Lukashenko regime targeted the Poles as a particularly suspicious national group.
At the moment, the situation of the Polish community in Belarus is the most difficult. Not even in Ukraine, where there is war, but in Belarus, because Poles are treated as political prisoners. Polish historical places are destroyed there, graves of Polish heroes are destroyed – this is the policy of Belarus. At the moment we cannot help the Poles in Belarus directly, but we are trying to do it in a different way. On the other hand, in other countries, where there are no such conflicts, the Poles are fine
said the minister.
Poland is now on the lips of the whole world and I have noticed that Poles are proud to be Poland. This is the result of our social uprising, our social solidarity with the Ukrainian nation. Poland is spoken about all over the world, and in wealthy countries like USA or Canada they are very proud to be Polish and there is a trend to give back the joy of being Polish
he continued.
It is often argued that the situation of Germans in Poland is dissimilar to that of Poles in Germany. A particularly important argument from the German side is that many Germans remained in the “Reclaimed Territories” after the war, while there was no Polish community in Germany as such.
This situation is changing. The fact is that Germans who have remained in Poland are treated differently from Poles who are in Germany. Decades have passed in which a large group of Poles live in Germany and this is Polonia, not temporary economic migrants, but Polonia. It is important that they have equal rights, especially the right to learn Polish. The school teaches the language, history, tradition and culture, so the point is that the children of people born outside the country can learn in Polish schools
– emphasized Andrzej Dera.
