European Commission deputy head Valdis Dombrovskis spoke with Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki about preparing for negotiations with five Central European countries that reported problems with the transit of Ukrainian grain. “The agreement seems within reach,” reports RMF FM, citing a source at the European Commission.
The meeting with representatives of Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania and Bulgaria was scheduled for Sunday at 13.00.
What does the proposal entail?
According to the RMF FM correspondent, Brussels would like an agreement to be reached as soon as possible, i.e. at the beginning of the week at the latest. Among the proposals to solve the problem on the part of the EC will be, among others: support for the export of surplus grain from five countries, including Poland.
Unofficial information from RMF FM indicates that UN agencies may be involved in the activities, including World Food Programme. As a result, grain from Africa and Asia would go to countries that need food. As part of that cooperation, the European Commission could buy grain.
The details of the transport of grain from Central European countries have yet to be worked out.
