This sounding very learned polarization and diffusion model of economic development, which basically boiled down to money and investment only going where the money already was. This model simply failed, moreover it led to one of the worst things that can happen to a society – it divided our country, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said in the latest episode of his podcast.
“About huge investments in Polish industry”
The head of government began the episode entitled “On major investments in Polish industry” by recalling his recent visit to the United States.
The Prime Minister described the visit to the US as “very important and fruitful” and assured that the effects will become visible in the coming months. Among other things, he announced new investments and new jobs in Poland.
Among other projects as announced last Monday by Orlen in collaboration with Synthos and GE Hitachi. Investment in the construction of a network of small, modular nuclear reactors, known to you as SMR
he stressed.
This is another big step on the Polish road to nuclear energy. Not in the perspective of decades, but in the coming years.
Morawiecki pointed out that the primary purpose of his government’s energy investments is development.
“Polarization and diffusion model of economic development”
The head of government pointed out that he often listens to what his political opponents say.
In recent days I have been getting announcements that one of the first decisions will be to stop the Central Communication Port project or to terminate contracts for the purchase of armaments, because all this is said to be a manifestation of megalomania
– he said.
As he said, investments such as digging the Vistula Spit or the dam on the border with Belarus were criticized. He judged that the plan to restore the navigability of the river Oder and the container port in Świnoujście was sabotaged in every possible way, “including with the help of foreign hands”. Morawiecki added that the tunnel under Świna was also “not to the taste of our political opponents”.
Yes, I know there are major airports in Berlin or Frankfurt, just as I know there are major airports in Rotterdam or Hamburg. Does this mean that Poland should give up its own development in favor of them? The same can be said about every area of life. Why spend money on the maintenance of the National Opera in Warsaw, when there is La Scala in Milan. Why keep museums in Krakow or Poznan, when there is a wonderful Louvre in Paris
That is what Prime Minister Morawiecki said.
At the same time, one can hear from the mouths of the same politicians that there is a lack of investment in Poland. This is not defended in any way
he assessed.
Doesn’t that remind you of something? How many times have you heard that there is already a police station in the neighboring district or that there is a good clinic in the neighboring town. That you can go to the cinema or theater to Warsaw, Łódź or Krakow, because it is 50 or 80 km
– said Mateusz Morawiecki.
This sounding very learned polarization and diffusion model of economic development, which basically boiled down to money and investment only going where the money already was. This model simply failed, moreover it led to one of the worst things that could happen to a society: it divided our country
– added.
New policy to support local governments
As the Prime Minister said, everyone creates one society and one economy and everyone should have equal opportunities for development and access to the fruits of this development. He added that the United Right is trying to “ensure that not only the biggest cities connect good roads”.
Our predecessors fetishized several highways, but highways don’t take you to work, take your kids to school, or take you to the nearest store or hospital. It is about providing a modern safe route from home to work, from work to school, from school to shop in every municipality, in every poviat. That is why we proposed a new policy to support local governments, a policy in which money for own contributions to EU cohesion funds appeared, but more importantly, gigantic, unprecedented investments with the Polish flag appeared
said the prime minister.
