In his decision, the Vice-President of the Court of Justice of the EU reduced the amount of the fine imposed on Poland for issues related to the disciplinary system of judges from €1 million to €500,000. euros per day. In March, the Polish side submitted a request to the CJEU to revoke or amend the decision imposing sanctions. Szymon Szynkowski vel Sęk, Minister of EU Affairs, comments on the decision of the CJEU in an interview with the wPolityce.pl portal.
This is obviously an insufficient step, as we expected that the fine would be withdrawn in its entirety, which in our opinion was wrongly imposed. It should not be enforced, especially after the implementation of legal remedies last June. Nevertheless, the fact that Poland’s request was partially granted and the CJEU shared a significant part of Poland’s arguments, by deciding to significantly reduce the sentence, is evidence that conducting an active dialogue and actions aimed at presenting our arguments can yield results and make sense.
he makes clear Szymon Szynkowski aka Sęk.
“This is certainly a step in the right direction for the CJEU.”
This is certainly a step in the right direction by the CJEU. The fact that our arguments have been taken into account proves that it makes sense to present them to the European authorities, and we will continue this dialogue
he adds.
