“Such a thing will absolutely not happen. We are united, but I know that for journalists, when the head of the parliamentary group leaves Hołownia, they also start looking for things that are wrong with us. I have often spoken with Rafał Trzaskowski, he is aware that we can do more together. We are tight, ready and no one is letting go. We laugh when they say we are divided, because we know how it is,” said Jerzy Borowczak, a PO MP, in an interview with the wPolityce.pl portal, referring to the rumors of a possible change of the head of the PO.
wPolityce.pl: Were you in Biała Podlaska during the joint speech of Donald Tusk and Rafał Trzaskowski?
Jerry Borowczak: No, I left Lublin at that time, I had three meetings assigned there. I have met seniors, mothers of autistic children, people with disabilities and farmers. Then the next morning, around On the 11th, we had a meeting of the KO club in Lublin. We have not discussed the meeting between Rafał Trzaskowski and Donald Tusk, because we don’t need it. This meeting was more for those who undermine our unity.
This issue of the alleged dispute between Donald Tusk and Rafał Trzaskowski is raised not only in the media, but also by some opposition politicians – for example, by the leader of Poland 2050, Szymon Hołownia. There are voices that there might even be some replacement of the PO leader.
Such a thing will absolutely not happen. We are united, but I know that for journalists, when the head of the parliamentary group leaves Hołownia, they also start looking for things that are wrong with us. I have often spoken with Rafał Trzaskowski, he is aware that we can do more together. We are tight, ready and no one is letting go. We laugh when they say we’re divided because we know what it’s like.
Your candidate has already been replaced once, in that case in the presidential election. Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska was suddenly replaced by Rafał Trzaskowski. Rather, this situation is conducive to discussions that it may now be similar in the case of Tusk and Trzaskowski.
No one changed anyone then. Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska said she is not a candidate and will not participate in this election farce. Of course, she may have said it too soon, but once she announced it, there was no other option than to say that since she didn’t want to participate, we were looking for another candidate.
You mean to say that the decision to withdraw from the presidential election was 100 percent. taken by Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska himself, without any pressure from the party?
She herself wanted to go to the press conference without us and announce that it was her decision. It was received differently that no one was behind her. Maybe we should get behind her, then you’d be happy. She told us not to support her, because then it would appear that we forced her to make this decision.
The polls for Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska were disastrous, at one point she had only 2 percent support. voters.
Yeah, but you know when her polls dropped like that, when she said she wasn’t running. If someone says she doesn’t run, it’s hard for her ratings to go up.
As far as I remember, Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska also had no good results in the polls before.
At the beginning of the campaign, she achieved good results, which allowed her to advance to the second round. She was guaranteed a second round, but when this envelope election story started, she was the first to say she wouldn’t be in it. Of course it was difficult for us because we had already spent some money on the campaign and then we missed it for Rafał Trzaskowski’s campaign. PLN 30 million was spent on President Duda’s campaign and PLN 7 million on Rafał Trzaskowski.
On the other hand, Rafał Trzaskowski entered the campaign as a new candidate, at full strength, while Andrzej Duda was already after many weeks of campaigning.
Yes, but checks were handed out to municipalities during President Duda’s campaign. It was not an equal and fair election campaign, government media was involved. If we had more money, this one more than 400 thousand. vote advantage of President Duda over Rafał Trzaskowski, it is not a colossal difference..
It must be admitted that more than 10 million votes in the presidential elections is a good result, Rafał Trzaskowski also comes out much better than Donald Tusk in confidence polls. Therefore, such speculation, or putting Trzaskowski in the foreground and hiding Tusk, would not be a KO plus.
NO. We have our leader and we will not replace him with anyone. Only with Kaczyński can such things happen – he is an ordinary member of parliament, he has a prime minister who must listen to him. The PiS president says, “Przyłębska is the president of the Constitutional Tribunal, and whoever doesn’t like it, we put him in jail.” But if Rafał Trzaskowski wanted to become our head of the PO, he had a chance. He did not want to, Budka won the election for the chairman of the PO. Trzaskowski could then say: “I have 10 million supporters and I want to become president of the PO.” He didn’t want to do it then, preferring to be president of Warsaw. However, now that he feels he should get involved in the campaign, he wants to support Tusk and PO. Rafał Trzaskowski is involved in this association, where there is Jacek Karnowski from Sopot – and of course it is good that he is there and that the community of local government officials is trying to convince that you should go together and not make new lists. Hołownia also talks to local government officials to be with him. Rafał Trzaskowski is in the association “Ruch Samorządowy Tak dla Polski” to convince its participants to support the KO list.
It is Rafał Trzaskowski who should pacify this association, drag it to the KO side?
No, most of the members there are our people, who, however, participated in the local government elections with our support from their committees. Rafał Trzaskowski is needed everywhere, he has a lot of confidence, a lot of authority, he is loved. We are very happy that our President Prime Minister is back from Brussels, because the PO was at the bottom of the polls, and after Tusk’s arrival we have 26-29 percent. support in the polls.
Despite the return of Donald Tusk, KO cannot permanently cross the 30 percent mark. support in the polls.
There were polls where we had 30-31 percent. We’ll see, we’re traveling through Poland, I don’t know if under a different leader we would do such a terrible job as we do now. For example, I will soon be leaving for Białystok.
You say where you go to meet with voters, I think it’s the same with other KO MPs – you’ll be able to confirm shortly. In principle, however, only Donald Tusk’s meetings penetrate public opinion.
We are visited by more than 120 deputies and senators, several people take part in individual meetings. We talk to individual circles, but it’s difficult to break through to the media because Orlen bought all the regional newspapers and they don’t contain information about our meetings. No journalist from these local media comes because he says he will lose his job.
However, there are also media that are sympathetic to KO.
Yes, and TVN shows all of Prime Minister Tusk’s speeches and possibly our conferences during the KO club. There, however, we do not see TVP, the Polish radio.
Are you going to Donald Tusk’s march on June 4? For now, the statements of a number of politicians show that it will rather be a march of KO and supporters of your formation, but not a march of the entire opposition.
I have spoken to politicians from other parties, the left will certainly be there, PSL…
However, there is no official support for these formations for the advance of the head of the PO. Donald Tusk added a message on Twitter that he called everyone to this march, but he had not previously invited the leaders of individual parties to it, he did not consult with them about this event. From their perspective, the whole situation can seem like an attempt to face a fait accompli.
You may be right, but if something like this were organized by the left, Poland 2050 or PSL, we as PO activists would definitely go to such a march, absolutely.
For example, the left invites you to a march for Labor Day on May 1.
It’s been politicized. If the left organized a march on May 3, I wouldn’t object. Do you know what May 1st means to me? Except that I was in prison and beaten there, because the communists marched on May 1 and we counter-marched. We fought, they caught us, they locked us up.
In an interview with me, Anna Maria Żukówka presented another concept: she hopes to meet Donald Tusk at the Equality Parade, which also seems to take place in Warsaw in June.
I have nothing against such marches taking place, although I do not attend. I don’t know if Donald Tusk would go on such a march, Rafał Trzaskowski, as you know, walks, Paweł Adamowicz, when he was a member of the PO, also went to such marches, and no one caused trouble for anyone.
