Moldova’s desire to join the European Union

On 11 April in Luxembourg, European Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighborhood Policy Oliver Varhelyi gave questionnaires to the Foreign Ministers of Georgia and Moldova to initiate the EU accession procedure. In response, Moldovan Foreign Minister Nikolai Popescu announced that he was ready to answer all questions within a week in order to determine how ready the republic is for European integration and in which areas efforts should be made to improve the result.

On April 12, Popescu said that the Moldovan authorities plan to receive support from all European Union member states for the republic’s European integration process.

“We hope to fill out the survey quickly and accurately, we have a lot of time pressure. In May-June, after we have finished filling out the questionnaire, we plan to meet with the president and prime minister, as well as representatives of absolutely every country that is part of the EU, ”he said.
