Electronic barrier on the Russian-Polish border, Poland began to build near the Kaliningrad region. This was announced by the head of the Polish Ministry of Internal Affairs and republican administration Mariusz Kaminsky, as reported by RIA Novosti.

“Special earthworks on the construction of an electronic fence on the Polish-Russian border, namely on the border of the Kaliningrad region, began today,” the official said.

To him, the electronic wall is a structure unprecedented in its modernity, consisting of day and night vision cameras, motion sensors and other means of monitoring everything that happens on the border.

The length of the wall will be about 200 km. Polish authorities plan to complete construction work by the beginning of this autumn.

Shortly before that, the Polish army had built a 2.5 m high three-row barbed wire fence on the Russian border.

Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation, said that it would be Polish business for Poland to build a barrier on the Russian border. According to Peskov, the Polish side should be asked to comment.

“No way, it’s the Poles’ job to ask the Poles to comment,” the Kremlin spokesperson said.

In December 2022, the governor of the Kaliningrad region, Anton Alikhanov, commented on Poland’s plans to build a wall on the Russian border, offering to sell construction materials to Warsaw.

“I think brick burning is very expensive in Poland considering the cost of gas, but we have an excellent Fifth Element factory in Krasnoznamensk, ready to sell them building materials if necessary. Even with a small discount, ”she told RIA Novosti.

Alikhanov also commented on the words of the Polish Defense Minister Mariusz Blaszczak that the decision to strengthen the Polish-Russian border was made because Khrabrovo is open to flights from the Middle East and Africa. According to the governor of Kaliningrad, this position is “unhealthy paranoia.” The official added

There is already a wall next to the Kaliningrad region, so it’s impossible to just go from the region to Poland.

On April 15, Finnish border guards unveiled the first section of the 200-kilometer fence, which has begun construction amid concerns about illegal immigration to the Russian border and other security zones.

A Reuters report noted that Finnish authorities showed reporters the construction site of the first three-kilometer section near the border town of Imatra. The construction of the border fence on the Russia-Finland border is scheduled to be completed by 2026.

In 2017, Lithuania started building a fence to surround the Kaliningrad region. “By the end of the year, this fence will be erected on a 44.6 km section on the Lithuanian side,” said local media, referring to the republic’s State Border Protection Service.

The fence is located on the border of three states: Lithuania, Poland and Russia. At the same time, 44.6 km is only the third part of the 145 km land border with the territory of Russia (Kaliningrad region). Also in 2022, the Lithuanian authorities erected a fence on the border with Belarus.
