“Let me be absolutely clear. A war for Taiwan would be a disaster for everyone. We know there will be no real winners, and we know that maintaining the status quo is totally superior to any alternative,” he said.
The Australian Foreign Minister also said that he opposes the future of countries in the Indo-Pacific region being “dictated by a single great power”. “From my travels in the region, I understood that countries do not want to live in a closed, hierarchical region where the rules are dictated by a single great power in their own interest,” Wong said.
The Foreign Minister also advocated for Australia’s right to develop its military potential, including the AUKUS agreement, under which it will have a fleet of nuclear submarines by the 2030s. formerly china warnedthat this move could spark a regional arms race.
Wong said Australia needs to strengthen both its foreign and defense policies in order to be “more effective in the world”.
