With his call to participate in the march “against high prices, theft and lies, for free elections and democratic, European Poland”, which will take place on June 4 through the streets of Warsaw, Donald Tusk finally buried the idea of a single list and confirmed the suspicion of his colleagues, leaders of other opposition parties, that it is only in his political interest.
Tusk’s return to Polish politics in July 2021 should not only give hope to the Civic Platform, which was at the bottom of the polls, to rebuild its position, but also provide a real opportunity to unite the entire opposition under his leadership and his triumph in the fall elections.
March of troublemakers from KOD
Meanwhile, everything seems to indicate that it will end with a march of the fighters of KOD and the Women’s Strike and PO activists, as the enthusiastic response of politicians of other opposition parties is somehow not visible, and some are even strongly distancing themselves of this idea.
The media supporting Tusk behaves like a spoiled child who lays down on the sidewalk in front of a toy store, stamps his feet and shouts that he wants the toy he sees through the window. Tusks at the head of one list and vassals in the form of leaders of other parties is a dream of those dejected by polls in which PiS does not fall and KO does not grow editors who have long forgotten that in a democratic state the media is the fourth, not the first and second powers. The opposition leaders, in their opinion, are wasting time, because since January, when their meeting on the National Reconstruction Plan took place, they have not spoken to each other: “These are no longer silent days, but quiet months. Who gave them the right to waste their time like this? Because not the voters’ sounded the alarm of the newspaper’s editors, who once changed ministers with one text and demanded the right to decide who should govern and who should govern more and who less.
Apart from Tusk’s peculiar perversion calling for a march against “theft and lies”, the fundamental question arises – why is Tusk suddenly calling for action, which will take place in a few dozen days? Why, if he is already so passionately urging his fellow leaders of other opposition parties to unity and cooperation, has he not met them and agreed on such an initiative, because if Tusk, Kosiniak-Kamysz, Hołownia, Czarzasty and politicians from smaller groups had signed it, its power and importance would be much greater. Is this a desperate escape forward and cover for Tusk and his political team from his days as Prime Minister, Friday’s Sejm’s decision to appoint a state commission to investigate Russian influence on the Republic’s internal security Poland in 2007-22? PO Secretary General Marcin Kierwiński ruled that “PiS has passed a law whose sole purpose is to remove (the head of PO Donald) Tusk from politics.” “They can’t cope in the real world, so they turn to the repertoire played in Minsk and Moscow,” he noted.
Elimination at the urns
Elimination from politics by committee or “night shift” (June 4 is not only the date of the first partially democratic parliamentary elections in 1989, but also the overthrow of Jan Olszewski’s government three years later, with the active role of Tusk – “Gentlemen, let’s count the votes”) is canceled today. Such elimination will be made by voters at the polls.
And Tusk, who today, following Louis XIV, tells us “the opposition is me”, instead of counting the votes in the streets of Warsaw on June 4, may have miscalculated enormously.
