“In the face of Russian aggression, France decided to spend more on the military, although the ground forces would receive the least. What does it mean from a Polish perspective? France will not help us much in repelling a possible invasion,” Piotr Gursztyn, a historian and TVP journalist, said in “Salon Dziennikarskie”.
The editor Jacek Karnowski also presented: Anna Szarzyńska (TVP Parlament), Piotr Semka (“Do Rzeczy”) and Marek Grabowski (sociologist, Mum and Dad Foundation).
Macron’s foreign policy
The journalists’ first topic of conversation was the change in French foreign policy and the rapprochement between Paris and Beijing. President Macron, during his visit to the People’s Republic of China, cited the need for Europe to achieve “strategic autonomy”, which should be understood as limiting the influence of the United States on the Old Continent.
We live in more than difficult times. As for French policy, one detail was overlooked: France decided to spend more on the military despite Russian aggression, although land forces will receive the least of it. What does it mean from a Polish perspective? France won’t be much help in repelling a possible invasion
– said Piotr Gursztyn.
As far as Polish public opinion is concerned, the conservative part has long paid attention to it, while the liberal part is only just learning that the European Union is not an altruistic community of values, but a space for real clashes of interests
– added.
There is a growing awareness in the European Union that the old balance of power is no longer valid, that the US has shifted world interests to the East and that the old EU countries are desperate to maintain their advantage and leadership. Attempting to undermine the alliance with the United States at a time when it is Europe’s strongest ally, in the context of Russian aggression, is unreasonable. This is the worst time. However, Macron’s statement is probably calculated for the internal market, he also wants to solve the pension protests
– noted Anna Szarzyńska.
Most importantly, what Minister Rau said is that it is important to form regional coalitions and rely on a stable ally, namely the United States. As for President Macron, thirty-six presidents of the largest companies went with him to China. France, which is dealing with huge internal problems, riots, urgently needs money and it is money that, without looking at other things like values, goes to China for money. Macron has achieved media success, but it is a difficult situation for Poland
said Marek Grabowski.
America has two types of allies in the world: formal allies with whom it exchanges opinions, shakes hands (like Macron) and operational allies – these are countries that the US knows will act efficiently in the event of a conflict, without talking, like Groot Britain, Japan or South Korea. We won the trust of the US for a very long time – in Iraq, in Afghanistan, which is why when the slogan “Poland” was mentioned in the Pentagon, we did not have such a status as the Czechs or Slovakia
– reviewed Piotr Semka.
I am very concerned about what Macron is doing, because it shows France’s rejection of responsibility for the continent, for the Western world. It’s something that happened to Germany in the 1980s and 1990s. From the status of a state that controls Europe’s security front, it has moved to a country where the Bundeswehr is a junkyard
added the publicist.
The state of the Polish political scene
The Social Changes survey for the wPolityce.pl portal shows that Jarosław Kaczyński’s party has its best result since December 2022, increasing its advantage over Civic Platform. The left loses and Poland 2050 has finally stopped the outflow of voters. 39 percent want to vote for the United Right. voters, and 28 percent for Donald Tusk’s party, giving an 11 percentage point advantage to the ruling party.
In recent weeks, we have seen a 1.2 percent increase in support for PiS as the ruling party’s trend continues to grow. More importantly, no government party – PO or SLD – has ever achieved such a good result in the spring. You can say that this reflection point is very high. The winter battle was won by PiS, and PO lost with its haze, as it doesn’t know where it wants to go. On the one hand, Prof. Grabowski says that the social face of PO is a lie, and on the other hand, the attack on John Paul II shows how vague the PO is, which is supposedly opposed, but ashamed of it. The left is more useful in attacking the Church and the Pope than in fading the PO
noted Marek Grabowski.
This poll consumes the confusion in John Paul II’s law, and here’s where PiS takes advantage of this narrative, as it clearly and unhesitatingly sided with the pope. On the other hand, this poll shows the weakness of the opposition, which has long tempted voters with the idea of a common list, and it is as far from it as it was at the beginning, and perhaps even further. Anti-PiS voters declare more unwillingness to participate in the elections than vote for Civic Platform. Also note that this poll is most likely not reflecting the effects of the grain scandal
Szarzyńska concluded.
The Civic Platform is in an impasse. The people of the PO propose to put Trzaskowski on the leader, but Donald Tusk controls all internal mechanisms in the party. The PO has 14 Vice Presidents, who have multiplied like rabbits to the point of meaningless. All these organs are held tightly. Tusk’s acolytes i.e. Kierwiński, Siemoniak and Sienkiewicz keep the party firmly on the reins, allowing Tusk to control the PO. Trzaskowski has no allies in the party who can help him. Sam, on the other hand, is such a teddy bear and has no allies in the party. The PO’s problem is that this party is one big stupidity – just like Budka, jump into the shoes of the iron soldier Tusk and you’ll have everything in your hands
Semka said.
