PiS MEP Jadwiga Wiśniewska sent an interpellation to the European Commission about the European Union’s support for the Member States hosting the largest number of refugees from Ukraine.
Point 12 of the European Council Conclusions of 9 February 2023 states: “The European Union reiterates its commitment to strengthening support for displaced persons, both in Ukraine and in the European Union, including through adequate and flexible financial assistance to Member States, which bear the brunt of the costs of treatment, education and maintenance of refugees.
Wiśniewska notes, citing OECD data, that Poland spent an estimated €8.36 billion on humanitarian aid for Ukrainian refugees in 2022, which is about 1.5 percent of the total. Polish GDP, becoming one of the main donors for Ukraine in this area.
As the MEP points out, Poland has so far received only EUR 200 million as part of EU financial support for the reception of refugees from Ukraine. That is why MEP Wiśniewska wants to know the progress of the EC’s work on the implementation of the conclusions of the European Council of 9 February 2023.
