Members of the US congress have submitted a bill for review that states that the US president cannot order the use of nuclear weapons without the consent of Congress. It has been reported DEA News.

The text of the document was developed by Democratic Senator Ed Markey from Massachusetts and his California colleague Ted Liu, according to the agency. They believe it is necessary to legally limit the president’s possibility of using nuclear weapons.

“No president has the right or constitutional authority to declare war unilaterally, let alone launch a nuclear attack,” Markey said.

Members of Congress believe that Congress should provide a system of checks and balances on the president’s sole discretion over the use of nuclear weapons.
