Turkish Foreign Ministry Head Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu said the country would not accept any preconditions for direct negotiations with the Syrian leadership, including the withdrawal of troops from Syrian territory. It has been reported TASS.
“Contacts with Syria are possible in the future, but there is still a lot of work to be done. And we will not accept any preconditions. We will not accept the condition that our troops withdraw from Syria for negotiations. We will go and the threats against us will begin again,” he said.
According to him, Turkey needs to “revive” the negotiation process involving Turkey, Russia, Syria and Iran.
In a statement to A Haber TV channel, Çavuşoğlu said that Russian President Vladimir Putin’s trips to Turkey or Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s trips to Moscow are not planned yet. The Minister also stated that Erdogan conducts active diplomacy. He said he was holding active telephone conversations with the Russian leader and also contacted Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
On March 27, the Turkish edition of DikGAZETTE claimed that Turkey was preparing for Putin’s visit, but his arrival was kept secret. According to him, the Russian president and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan should discuss a wide range of issues and visit the earthquake zone in the southeast of the republic.
