China’s Foreign Ministry said Chinese officials had implemented restrictive measures against Michael McCall, Chairman of the US House of Representatives Foreign Relations Committee. transmits TASS. According to the agency, the decision was made in response to a trip to Taiwan at the head of a delegation of US congressmen.

“In recent years, McCall has repeatedly interfered with China’s internal affairs by word and deed and harmed the country’s interests, recently leading a delegation that visited the Taiwan region of China,” China’s Foreign Ministry said.

The ministry also pointed out that McCall’s trip to Taipei was a violation of the “one China” principle. The Chinese Foreign Ministry emphasized that his visit also contradicted the provisions of the US-China declaration.

The issue of Taiwan’s status is one of the most painful for Beijing. Although most of the world’s states adhere to the “one China” policy, Taiwan or the Republic of China has been a de facto independent state since the war ended in 1949. Beijing views Taiwan as an integral part of the PRC and criticizes unauthorized contacts with Taipei.

McCall’s earlier warned about the risk of establishing Chinese control over Taiwan after visiting the controversial island.
