The hearing begins at 11:00 am. The amendment to the law on the Supreme Court was sent to the Constitutional Court at the initiative of President Andrzej Duda, which ruled that the amendments made in parliament were not in line with the constitution.
Important amendment
The Sejm passed an amendment to the law on the Supreme Court on January 13 this year. At the end of January, the Senate introduced 14 amendments, which were rejected by the Sejm last Wednesday. According to the authors of the amendment – PiS deputies – this law should fulfill an important “milestone” for the European Commission to release money for the national reconstruction plan.
I decided to submit the amendment to the law on the Supreme Court to the Constitutional Tribunal under the preventive scrutiny procedure. This means that the law will not enter into force until the Tribunal has decided whether the law is in accordance with the constitution. It is important for me to activate as soon as possible the funds of the National Reconstruction Plan, which are necessary for the development of the Polish economy
– said President Andrzej Duda in February this year.
According to the government, the decision of the Constitutional Court could be crucial for Poland to obtain funds from the KPO. The European Commission is blocking payments from this fund, stating that the amendment to the law on the Supreme Court is one of the milestones in releasing money for Poland.
