“If there was one list, it would mean check, and maybe even checkmate for PSL. In the face of the polarized countryside and the circles represented by PSL, entering one list is even checkmate for PSL, the disappearance of this party. On the other hand, Poland 2050 was created based on PO’s mistakes. If Hołownia got on one list, it would cease to be an alternative to the PO, it would have nothing to stand out in such a coalition,” said Jan Rulewski, a former PO senator, in an interview with the portal wPolityce.pl.
wPolityce.pl: Rafał Trzaskowski more visible than Donald Tusk in the election campaign would be more favorable to the opposition?
Jan Rulewski: NO. Politics is not a profession, it’s not even a skill, it’s just an experience. I have known Tusk since childhood, since he made his debut in the Sejm – he gained a lot of experience and knowledge that Rafał Trzaskowski does not have. Tusk also has an advanced environment that Trzaskowski does not. The opposition outside the KO might believe that Trzaskowski would be a “crumb” to them – this could be an argument for them to choose Trzaskowski over Tusk.
Donald Tusk has repeatedly called for a single list and on this occasion spoke out harshly about other opposition parties. Does it hurt the opposition?
The problems of the divided opposition lie elsewhere. If there was one list, it would mean check, and maybe even checkmate for PSL. In the face of the polarized countryside and the circles represented by PSL, entering one list is even checkmate for PSL, the disappearance of this party. On the other hand, Poland 2050 was created based on PO’s mistakes. If Hołownia entered one list, he would no longer be an alternative to PO, he would have nothing to distinguish himself in such a coalition.
What about the left?
The left is unacceptable programmatically and I think mentally for this camp as a whole as well. Sure, Tusk would be against it in part, but certainly the Polish coalition.
However, it is Donald Tusk who wants one list, including links.
Yes, but in such a situation the Polish coalition would take wind not to be with Tusk, since he is with the left. Moreover, I think there is a large radically anti-liberal environment within the left itself. This is already a hot, explosive mixture.
So one list is a bad idea for the opposition?
The idea is good, but not feasible.
Does this mean that Donald Tusk – from the point of view of opposition interests – should stop altogether on the subject of the opposition’s joint start?
I think so, but Donald Tusk will of course continue to convince the opposition to start from one list, because if that were to happen it would strengthen the PO as a leader. It is always the leader on the box that counts, the one who wins the gold medal, not the bronze.
If only one opposition list was drawn up, wouldn’t it be easier for the rulers because the entire opposition could be signed with the name “Donald Tusk” and it would be easier to campaign?
Yes, I agree that it would be easier to polarize the political scene into “us” and “them”.
During his speech in Żywiec, Donald Tusk said that there will be one opposition list anyway, because simply those opposition parties who disagree with this project will not enter the Sejm – is this part of Donald Tusk’s game for the drop in ratings of other opposition parties?
I didn’t see it that way, but I understood it in such a way that Tusk predicted that he would go head over heels for further action over time in the sense that he would try to present himself as the only alternative to opposition. voters and then he would have certain problems with those parties. Due to the origin of these parties and their location, KO, PSL, Polska 2050 and Links cannot run in a joint bloc, but this does not mean that they will not form a joint government after the election. This is probably what opposition parties other than the KO are counting on – that the KO will run out of seats to govern alone, and thus be forced to come to an agreement with other opposition parties. PSL is known as a “spinner”.
If you call PSL a “spinball”, does that mean that this party could possibly come to an agreement with PiS after the election?
I wouldn’t rule it out completely.
